My husband has been tilling regular to help with controling the weeds. He has expanded the area for the wild flowers which also gets tilled. I saw quite a few bees in the wildflower garden so that is a plus.

I planted contender bush beans I wanted some Roma beans but for some reason no one has the seeds here. I will be planting some root crops later on and some sweet peas. Might try carrots for a change. A few years back we planted some onions from seed and they were good. Now I just by the plants or bulbs to plant.
I planted some spinach in a raised bed till Aubie(the cat) was seen digging in the raised bed. I planted wildflowers in the raised beds this past spring.

To me it's like sitting there trying to get a belly full of bluegills or other small brim. Just a whole lot of work for a little bit of meat. Florida fist bump!!!

The beans in the garden are up.

We got rain and booming thunder last night.

Does anyone know if anything grows faster than wild morning glories? They aren't a wildflower I want although some of them are pretty...but a nuisance.

On second thought I think Kudzu has all of the fast-growing plants beat.

Sitting here on this new bench that someone conveniently built on the side of this road in this private neighborhood where my friends live. What Florida used to look like and still does in some areas...

In the pictures above a flood will come along once about every 10 or 15 years and there will be three or four foot of water on top of that road.

All the houses down in there are built up on stilts. To the extent and duration that it does flood the road you have to park vehicles up on higher ground and take a boat to your house.

But like I said that's pretty rare and the flood waters would recede in about 2 or 3 weeks. The last big flood there was hurricane Irma in September of 2017.

But damned if they don't want a bunch of money still for being in a floodplain for any land.

I live just down the road from there but I wouldn't mind buying some property there. I have the perfect bike for those roads. My bike can go down those roads at 35 40 mph no problem.

Might be a little drunken ATV riding around there on the weekends. ;)

I would maintain that those wild grape vines are more aggressive than kudzu. They just don't spread out as thickly on the ground. Once they get into a stand of trees though, they take off in every direction.

Out here riding on my boss man's 175 acres. He's been inviting me out for a while so I figured I'd be rude if I didn't make some time to come out here. He road out here on the four-wheeler and showed me a little bit of it and turned me loose.

He grazes cattle out here. The gas station and service garage has made him a wealthy man over the decades. He told me I could ride out here camp out here or do whatever I wanted as long as it's not illegal.

Speaking of things it would be illegal to harvest, here are some of the legendary magic mushrooms I spotted, pscilocybe cubensis, AKA purple ringers AKA golden tops.

Been many years since I've ate any so I just observed them and left them in their natural habitat. Notice they are growing directly from cattle dung as is there typical habitat

A beautiful creature they are. There are hogs out here and coyotes and I have already seen a bobcat and two gopher tortoises.
I highly suspect that wild hogs like to eat those mushrooms with a gusto

Try this again last one did not load. Oh bother, it looks as though my front wheel has slung cattle poop all up under my fender and on the front of my engine. But it ain't no off-road bike if you don't get some mud and some poop on it IMG_20220815_144326.jpg

After having lived in Tampa for 16 years... I love living in this fairly rural area of Florida.

May The carpet baggers who insist on moving to Florida not move here until after the day I am dead.

Keep moving to the coastal areas and turn those blue while we will remain red here in the interior.

The last stronghold and bastion of freedom in Florida. My ancestor fought in Sergeant Dickinson's first light artillery, in the Confederate States of America here in the interior of Florida. The only land-based Calvary to EVER... take a yankee ship. on the St Johns River.

God willing and the creek don't rise I'll die here myself.

May some intrepid rider in the future... See my bones as he rolls by.

    1. I went looking for his last post.. he was sparring with Daisy at that time.. the bar in Oct '21
Rained all night, slow sprinkle.. maybe it will soak in. Went to Cd Chihuahua Sat and Sun. Left early, new cartel is killing citizens willy nilly.. I don't think that is going to work out for them.. they were tolerated by the general population because they keep the killing and violence among themsleves and their various factions.. they want the Government of Chihuahua to release a cartel leader that murdered a couple of preachers. Bukle of San Salvador knows how to handle that type of behavior. Problem Mexico has, much like the US, is there is NOONE in Government that is not corrupt .

I don't miss the twit. 'Nuf said on that subject.

We've gotten more than the usual when it comes to rain for July, and it seems the September weather change has come early here. I'm not complaining one bit, low 80's and low humidity makes for beautiful days. Started some new beans last weekend, and root crop seeds will go in end of the month.

Got 9.5 pounds of potatoes, not bad for a first time. At the going rate at the store for Yukon Golds, $7.99 for a 5# bag, we did OK.

I also found these coprophilus mushrooms yesterday ( fancy mycology term that means growing from dung )

While these are not the psychedelic sort I still find them interesting. The stems are incredibly tough like leather and as you can see the Caps are very small. And the mycelium resembles a root-like structure from an oak tree.

The particular turd I picked these from had hundreds of these little guys growing on it so I can only surmise that the inside of the turd looked about like the root structure of an oak tree.

I don't know the species but I intend to find out because not knowing bothers me.

Perhaps they have some medicinal benefit that should be studied?
