Answering the question, 'why didn't the FBI grab the TS docs back in june'?

    ....this is the question I'm seeing a lot.

    The answer is that after the June visit by DOJ with Trump's lawyers, Trump sent back a lot of boxes of docs, with an attorney's signed declaration that all the docs they were seeking were returned.

    When the gov found out that not be true, then the search warrant.

    That makes sense, with such sensitive materials, Trump & co lying about it, now it's time to up the ante. No more playing nice. Apparently, being nice and being patient doesn't work with Trump. Oh, but Trump does love to play the victim. And, it wasn't a 'raid' as the right has been hyping. No one bashed any doors down and rushed the premises with guns drawn.

    WASHINGTON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - A lawyer for former U.S. President Donald Trump signed a statement in June that said all classified material held in boxes at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence had been returned to the government, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

    The statement was signed after Jay Bratt, a top national security official in the U.S. Department of Justice, visited Trump's South Florida beach club on June 3, the New York Times reported. Bratt met with two Trump lawyers to discuss the handling of classified information during the visit, the newspaper said.

    The chairs of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Reform on Saturday asked the director of national intelligence, Avril Haines, to review what damage may have been done to national security by Trump's having the highly classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

    "Former President Trump's conduct has potentially put our national security at grave risk. This issue demands a full review, in addition to the ongoing law enforcement inquiry," the two committee chairs, both Democrats, said in a three-page letter, which they publicly released

    Soooo no “Hey Trump… we know you sent back like 20 boxes of stuff we asked for but there’s a few more missing.”

    Just straight to the raid his home with an unannounced warrant after he had already provided you dozens of boxes of documentation you requested?

    And we are supposed to believe this isn’t politically motivated?

    They like to ignore the parts that don't fit their "alternative facts".

    The FACT is he had no right to take any of those documents to FL so HOWEVER the authorities needed to get them back is justifiable. Anybody else would be in prison praying for their lawyer to present a strong case to ever let them see the light of day.

    One would think self-proclaimed "patriots" would actually be loyal to their country versus a career criminal with no redeemable qualities. I guess the ones sitting in prison figured it out. Too bad the rest of them can't. /smdh

    Trump sent 15 boxes, with a signed declaration by his attorney that all the requested boxes, including the highly sensitive Top Secret Docs, were returned.

    The gov checked the contents, and the TS docs were not there.

    That's when a warrant is the proper course of action.

    That's not politics, that's being responsible to protect the national security of the united states from a reckless former president who lies to the FBI.

    And then the feds visited Trump in June, looked at what he had, told him to secure them and left. Why would the feds just walk away from top secret stuff?

    20 boxes of “stuff” he should not have had in his possession and for which he was not prosecuted for illegally having in his possession

    He has been treated with kid gloves up to now

    Because at the time they did not know it WAS “top secret stuff”.

    Personally I still think this is linked to Jared’s $2 billion Saudi payout

    Lols please tell me you’re not suggesting it was appropriate to raid an ex presidents home over a clerical error by a lawyer as opposed to just asking for the documents back?

    ᜵given that the chain of custody was shattered, why should I believe they didn't bring the docs with them and the docs were planted?

    They didn't, Trump and his lawyer provided the FBI with a signed declaration that all the documents being requested were present.

    They made the mistake of believing Trump and his lawyer.

    Such an overreaction, simply because the lawyer hadn't written what he'd intended, that all the requested boxes, including the highly sensitive Top Secret Docs, were not returned...
