This news guy cites a report stating kids are less aerobically fit than their parents and that's because it's hot outside and kids don't exercise in hot weather. He then gives his opinion and says video games and social media are probably what's keeping kids indoors, and on that point he's probably right.

Most of us probably didn't grow up with video games and back then there were just 12 channels on TV to watch, and during the day it was filled with game shows, soap operas and other things kids don't watch, so we went outside and played stickball, football, baseball, ice hockey in the winter, and so on. Back in the day, no matter how hot it was outside, being kept indoors was a punishment and not something we liked.

But leave it to the global warming alarmists to blame global warming for fat kids and not McDonald's or Haagen Daz.

I can't wait for someone to say global warming ate his homework.

The left blames global ice ages and global warming and any climate change at all from some set date in the 1970’s as bad and uses it as an excuse to justify all their political, educational, and moral failures in our society

To the extent that kids tend to share in the bad habits of their parents. But let's face modern society in the West is largely a sedentary society and that lends itself quite nicely to an obese society and that would be true with or without climate change as a political deus ex machina.

Losers do breed losers. Imprinted onto them via the parents. A vicious cycle.

Kids absolutely often end up sharing in the bad habits of their parents. Kids learn eating habits from their parents.

While I don’t consider someone to be a loser because they are obese. It is likely obese parents will have obese kids.

What I meant was, that parents with poor moral and ethical values and principles tend to lead their children down the same path as they. Because they know no better.

Everyone knows that Global Warming is to blame for obesity because it caused Kangaroos to migrate to Ohio, forcing kids to stay inside for fear of being beaten within an inch of their lives.

I had to laugh when you mention channels. You said 12. In MY day we had the three networks and pbs. Most kids were outside most the day, or during the winter.. at friends houses, or on the phone. Not only more exercise but more socialization. We dud not hide from the heat. The temperatures then were the same as today with the same variations from year to year.

OP is correct. Social media, video games, and no emphasis on physical activity or standards from the parents is what is making kids fat. However, bad diet should also be added.

Outside of any rare medical condition, 100% blame goes to parents if their kids are obese. It’s the parents job to limit video game time, limit social media time and push physical activity and healthy eating. My kids aren’t obese because we got our kids active and eating healthy from the start so that’s what they know and enjoy. Don’t get me wrong, they still ate junk food as kids but in moderation. They still played vid games but in moderation. Kids learn their behavior from the examples parents put forth.

Don’t forget we just went through two years of quarantines, social distancing and closed schools. Kids couldn’t go out and play with other kids because of that. Plus tons of adults complained about gaining weight during the lock downs.

On a different note, when I was a kid only my father worked, my mom stayed at home. Today most married people both have jobs, either by career choice or by financial necessity. So if they have kids, the baby sitters will use video games to keep the kids quiet, or tge parents, when they’re home, use video games on the kids because they’re beat from working all day.

I'd say social media has more to do with fat kids than global warming.

Kids who had a yard absolutely could play all throughout the close to one year of quarantine. People could still go to parks to play. Adults who gained weight did so by choice. I didn’t gain any weight because I continued to exercise and be active. Hiking trails weren’t closed during quarantine. Roads to jog along weren’t closed to quarantine. Plenty of body weight exercises people could do when their gym was closed. Fill up buckets with dirt and lift those. There are tons of ways to be active.
If parents are having their kids play video games because they are “beat” from working all day then shame on them. That’s bad parenting. My wife and I work all day yet always found time to play with our kids.

That applies to a whole lot of things, including political persuasion and what kids believe when it comes to social science.

The other factor that is not really considered is overprotective parents. When you look at the increase of paedophiles and judge's that don't see anything wrong with their grotesque behaviour, what are most kids going to do? Sit on their butts drinking soft drinks (soda) Mcdonald's and a host of other unhealthy crap, of course, they're going to get fat playing on their Xbox, Playstations and PC a like.

That's why my earlier statement to ECA was the explanation for the below statement of mine.

Is soda and McDonalds the only drink and food parents can supply their kids with? How about giving them something healthier? Kids can’t play in their yard? Parents can’t take their kids to local parks to play?

FFS, I didn't want to make a shopping list of crap, it was but a small example.
Yes of course parents can give their children healthier options, but they also have to move and burn off all that energy that they're shovelling into their faces. If you don't burn all those carbs, regardless of quantity, sitting on their butts most of the time turns them into balls of fat. Would they not?
Parks? Yes, when they're 5, as you get older children, they lack interest in that kind of activity.
It comes back to the parent's committent.

It’s parents job to get their kids into being active. Problem is it seems most American adults are lazy phuks and therefore condition their kids to be lazy. So sad.

I'm pretty sure global warming is responsible for dogs pooping in people's yards.
