Fun fact...." Pscilocybe cubensis " translate in English to bald-headed, coming from the island of Cuba. Though they are found in the dung of grass eating mammals in all temperate regions of the globe with cattle dung being the most common of course.

If you were in India you might find some growing on elephant dung.... Think about that man... Elephant shrooms!

I wish I had pictures of some of the most grand specimens I had found over the years. Regal in their bearing, Grand in their stature! Found one once it was almost 1 ft tall and as big around as a small dinner plate.

But my legal expert tells me to advise you not to pick them unless you check on the laws and your town or county or municipality. And I would advise you not to eat them unless you don't have anything to do for the next 6 or 8 hours and you're good with that sort of thing!

And naturally...... Never eat anything unless it's legal and you are certain of its identity.

Bamboo has clocked in at as much as just shy of 3 feet a day. Kudzu has been heavily abated in the last few decades. Railroads in particular have really gone out of their way to get rid of the stuff as have man highway departments. Seems to me I heard somewhere that they finally developed a selective herbicide that would kill it completely.

We have some of the tallest bamboo in the world growing in Alabama. I have never seen it pull houses off their foundations and take over countless acres. It is the vine that ate the south

I have seen Kudzu cover an abandoned house in just a few weeks. The next pesty thing for the deep south is Chinese privet(aka ligustrum sinese) a very invasive bush.

Then dump a bunch of straight Roundup on it and burn a hot fire on top and do the same thing several more times! Lol

Trails near my house, a series of dirt roads where people live back in the woods but this is one of the lesser traveled ones in a Cypress swamp bottom. You don't hang out here too long in the daytime even, unless you have some lightweight long clothes or good mosquito spray. This is more of a service road than a main road to a house IMG_20220819_164537.jpg IMG_20220819_164723.jpg

So jealous. We don't have them in the UK. When we went to Yosemite the cottage we stayed in had them visit every day, just wonderful.

I wait patiently every year for them. We have a feeder they visit. They are like nature's fairies.

I am going to update my latest project. It has been a struggle. I started taking cuttings as soon as the flowers faded on the phlox. I took as many cell packs as I had and filled them up. When the cuttings started to root I set them out. About 72 a day. I plant 72 and then take 72 cuttings. I have some clones in the landscape already. These are some of the first cuttings of the candy stripe. The next is pink. I also have red. They seem to grow at different rates. IMG_20220821_085403.jpg IMG_20220821_085524.jpg

I have taken several thousand cuttings at least. I am hoping they will fill in that area by spring. If it works out people will be stopping and taking pics. If not, they will talk about that crazy old man sitting in a chair on the side of the road.

I put a hummingbird feeder outside my dining room window ....my normal seat.....and the birds are coming to feed. I get a bird's eye view now. They are the only bird that can support itself in air by muscle power alone.

I'm surprised that they weren't there earlier. I thought you were south of me, and we've had them since April.

I love watching them play their territory games.

They may be here earlier but they don't come to our feeders till late in the season. I live in north central Alabama.

IMG_20220822_092244.jpg Azalea cuttings. I left them under my shade tree and kinda forgot them. IMG_20220822_092249.jpg The hydrangeas were put in an aquarium and kept moist and humid. The aquarium had a cover and 5000k led light.

9 in of rain today in Big D. An old weatherman once said, "The only way fix a Texas drought is a Texas flood."

    Got that.
