Take a look at the photos below, does that look like training on how to read spreadsheets, ledgers and the tax code? These armed folks appear to be the muscle for the IRS, not auditors, but take a closer look. One guy is in a wheelchair and then there’s the borderline obese women. Since they don’t appear to be the kind of folks who can arrest a person who’s upset and resists, they’re only compliance and self defense skills are shooting that person and that’s what they’re being taught. Remember when the left wanted to defund and disarm the police? I do. So will the left call for defunding and disarming the people coming to take their money by force? So my question to the left is why isn’t the IRS hiring unarmed social workers to collect tax debts? …………………………… Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie These are not auditions for the next Police Academy sequel. This is an actual IRS recruiting program: https://twitter.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1559631370607017985?
Tax collectors aren't law enforcement any more than the people at the DMV collecting for your car registration. The IRS has "Special Agents" to deal with criminals. The rest of the people they contact are mostly confused trying to understand the most complex tax rules in the world, and even the CPA's struggle with it every year because the rules constantly change. This is the militarization of a domestic agency.
Well, for starters, if they are carrying firearms, then they are special agents in training. Special Agents in Training are either TIGTA, or Treasury Inspector General For Tax Administration, or Criminal Investigation, or the accountants with the gun. Second, all training is done at Quantico and nowhere else, after a thorough background check and health evaluation is concluded. Of the three pictures, the third picture is more believable. The second picture is maybe, and the first picture needs more context, such as role-playing for instance.
It's really sad that you're posting from Twitter. But my question to you, is why does this concern you? Do you think you have done some shady stuff with your taxes to warrant a full-on IRS raid? You would have to be a real moron not to realize the sorts of shady businesses and characters they deal with on a daily basis to not see that they need to be armed.
First you hit me with a personal attack in post 8 and then you ask about Twitter when it’s actually a statement from a congressman that’s the topic - typical lib, always concerned with the source and not the pictures you can see with your own eyes. And thanks for accusing me of being a moron. But if I really was a shady businessman or character who might resort to violence, then the guy in the wheelchair or the soon to be morbidly obese women are just the kinds of people I’d want to come and get me. Those people would never pass the physicals to be cops, military, astronauts and so on. Would you want them watching your back when raiding a violent person? Of course you would, or at least that’s what you’re going to say.
Well that was an intelligent response. At least you know when you’ve been bettered and when to walk away in order to avoid more pain.
Kind of funny how the left opposes the militarization of police departments and the police in general but they're okay with this
You're the one that outted yourself. I didn't call you a moron, but you sure jumped into your martyr role in a heartbeat.
Since this is from what is obviously a long standing program - why is it being posted now? BTW the one with the attitude looks real scary!!
It could only NOT makes sense to you. And you and me and everyone else on this board knows your opinion would be completely different if the Trump administration had done this. The only reason you don't oppose it is because dear leader...
This is not a new thing, IRS CID officers have always been trained for firearm usage, they've been using firearms in their entire 100+ year history ->https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/2019_irs_criminal_investigation_annual_report.pdf Here's a report from 2018 on what the IRS spent on firearms for that year -> https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-19-175.pdf
