It's been my observation that the American media covers the royal family as just another type of celebrity. The coverage and the celebrity interviews are similar. Oprah interviews celebrities. So I'm sure that had an effect on how Meghan Markle viewed Harry, not as a royal who's life was governed by duty, but as a globe hopping celebrity she could hitch her wagon to.

She was à unique model of the best of men and women.
I found the funeral moving but the best two moments...the single bagpipe player who turns and walks slowly away as if disappearing slowly into a far distance, getting more and more quiet as he goes.

Otherwise, à siperb pièce of théâtre much deserved by à lifetime of service.

You do make yourself sound like a bigot by writing "They need a bit of education about these things before migrating to “Christian” countries."
Just because you found 1 example, it doesn't mean that this is in general what "they" do.

You should have figured that one out on your own.

    54? The commonwealth got 56.
And at the end of her reign she only was the head of state of 15 countries.
Barbados kicked her out of the government last year.
So it's not "exactly" my opinion and they have overwhelmingly already spoken.
    I guess you didn't know.

If you believe that, then you have a sheer lack of knowledge of the Crown and the Monarchy "Brand" to the UK. But in conversations, those against the Monarchy show equal lack of knowledge too

Don't tell this around, but the Italian President of the Republic [with his daughter] has been substantially ignored and he had to walk to the abbey!
At the end we are dirty Republicans and Italians!

Probably in England they would have preferred not to see our President there!
    "An other Italian immigrant!".

No problem ... Italians have found this quite amusing ... :applause::cool:o_O

I add a little note: Italians tend to support the Scottish people in their fight for independence.
I guess that this has played a role in the treatment of our ignored President of the Republic at London.
BTW, I wanted to become President of the Republic, but for a week I wasn't 50. So we had to leave Mattarella in the office.

    Nice question.
    Ireland? Sure [Northern Ireland].
Wales is substantially unknown in Italy if not in political environments.
Rugby has made Italians discover that Wales exists ...

Supporting Scottish independence is all fun and games until the Scots start supporting the Northern League.

Dot worry. You are in good company.
Both Boris Johnson and Joe Biden were ignored after one quick shot of them arriving at Westminster Abbey I would have preferred that Boris has not been invited at all but being à Royal occasion, politics plays no part.

Wales is often confused with England because the Welsh just love to get in bed with the English.

    From a friend.

    A QUEEN's TALE
I was on Guard of Honour, waiting for the King of Saudi Arabia, on Horseguards.

On the right flank; Scots Guard (100 guardsmen) a gap, HM The Queen, mounted in uniform; alongside her the CO Colonel Gerald, another gap, then on the left flank, the Queen’s Company Grenadier Guards (100 guardsmen).

    We’re stood at ease waiting.

Suddenly the silence was broken by Colonel Gerald’s charger erupting with horse farts at full volume for two minutes.

Embarrassed and staring straight ahead Colonel Gerald says, “Sorry about that your Majesty!”

She replies, in a wonderful voice, “That’s alright Gerald, . . . I thought it was your horse!”

200 guardsmen silently cried with laughter, and tapped their rifle butts on the gravel.

From that moment, every man there adored her!

After the English Civil War, the Monarchy relented power to parliament, it went from an Absolute Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy with Royal prerogatives. The prerogatives have become less over the decades, to the point that the King's/Queen's power is to simply sack the Prime Minister if he/she doesn't step down after defeat. Everything else you see, is tradition and rubber stamping by the Monarchy.

So after the civil war, the assets of the Monarchy is know as the Crown Estate, it's operating profits goes to the treasury, the tax payers coffers. So some £200m after tax goes to the taxman, the Monarchy cost £102m in 2021/22. So a net profit to the UK of over £100m. Then every so often, money from this is spent to upgrade certain Royal properties.

The Monarchy contributes nearly £1.8bn per year to the UK's economy, a chunk of that being tourism. The Royal Brand is worth £67.8bn.

So to sum up, anyone with a company worth £67.8bn, attracting £1.8bn extra income to others, makes over £200m a year, and at a cost of £1002, would have to off their welt to close it down.

Suffice to say, that will never happen. It's likely those who wish to abolish the UK Monarchy -

1 - Have created a poor standard of living for themselves and are envious of someone rich.

2 - They have a close to zero percentage knowledge of the Monarchy, Crown Estate etc..

But suffice to say, free speech, we have to endure these anti-royal numpties.

The Monarchy is purely head of state, in America, they have a head of state that has dementia and a thing for sniffing kids, Biden.

The UK is stooped in Royal history, America only has Hollywood, made up films and actors/actresses to aspire too.

Queen Elizabeth II was in her 20s when she became Queen of England and people worshiped her for many years. King Charles III started at 73 and he won't last as long as his mother did for that many years.

I don't really know how the people of the U.K will take to King Charles III in the days, months, years to come. I remember him marrying Lady Diana Spencer who later became Diana Princess of Wales. I also remember his adult affair with Camilla. and things that happen through the years. Charles III isn't as bad as Andrew Duke of York and the mess involving Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. I know Charles III will do his best to be the king he's expected to be.
