Students have just returned to the Simpson University Campus this week to start another school year. The pace has picked up at the Redding university. With more than 200 new and transfer students, Simpson is bucking a national trend by growing for the fifth year in a row, while many colleges and universities are seeing a 6% to 9% decline in enrollment. University President Dr. Norman Hall says the warm and welcoming Redding community is a big reason, as well as, "working really hard on making transfers, from two-year colleges to Simpson University, work well for the students to finish up in four years," Norman told KRCR's Mike Mangas on Thursday. "So that, combined with our new digital media major, engineering, computer information systems, kinesiology, sports managementthose are the things we feel like are being set up to meaningfully engage students in careers that will support the Northstate.” RELATED CONTENT | "Upward Bound" program at Simpson University The number of international students has grown… https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/simpson-university-sees-growing-attendance-for-fifth-year-in-a-row/ar-AA123pCZ Simpson University is a very good University. It is growing despite the decline in students nationally and in California. It is a private Christian University and a great value based both on its services and quality as well as the low costs of living in the area it’s located.
A rainbow stretches over Simpson University residence halls. CNBC ran a story about the survey this week, listing the top 10 “cheapest college towns.” It said this about Redding: “Although California is home to some of the most expensive places to live in the country, students at Simpson University are getting a deal…. …—much less than students have to shell out at other private schools. With many national parks nearby, there’s also plenty to do outside the classroom that costs nothing at all.” Peter Martinez, Simpson University’s director of admissions, said the national ranking gives university recruiters an additional resource to share with prospective students and their families. https://simpsonunews.com/2018/05/11...med-10th-most-affordable-college-city-in-u-s/ Simpson University made a great choice some 30 years ago to move out of San Fransisco to Redding.
Sadly it is in Redding, California The northern arm pit of the Central Valley. Why don't they build these campuses at very nearby higher elevations. Above the inversion layer Moi Or Build Them In eh
Actually it’s around 1300 now plus their online adult degree completion program. They only had 300 students when they moved their school out of San Francisco to Redding.
Redding, Ca is a beautiful place actually. Surrounded by mountains national forests and lakes on three sides in close proximity. There is no Central Valley north, west, or east of Redding. Northern California's Cascade Range. GETTY …Where: Redding and the Shasta Cascades, California Chosen by: Melissa Klurman is a travel expert, writer and editor and contributor at Reader’s Digest, Frommer’s Travel Guides and Parents, among other publications. Why: Beautiful and remote, the Northern California city of Redding and the Shasta Cascade region are about as under-the-radar as it gets in the lower 48. Considered to be a hidden gem in the west, it’s often referred to as “California’s Last Frontier,” and it’s also one of the best bargains anywhere in the United States. The region is scattered with 50 waterfalls, dozens of lakes, rivers, mountains, historic mining towns, two national monuments, six national forests, seven state parks and even active volcanoes—most of which are free or very inexpensive, so you’ll never break the vacation bank. For example, snowshoeing at Lassen Volcanic National Park costs just $1 per person. Plus, hotels, including the iconic Thunderbird Motel, rarely go above $100, making this a bargain vacation you’ll want to return to in every season… https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurabegleybloom/2019/12/19/best-places-travel-us-2020/?sh=12f1f6c34898

What of its' academia? Publications. Original Science Research. Graduates who are economically successful after graduation. Or just another Liberal Arts College? Moi - - - - - - - - BTW it was my understanding Redding is below the inversion layer, not above. I inquired about 3 Rivers and spoke with Dr. George Fishbeck in his retirement somewhere around Fresno. And specifically I asked about the inversion layer - decades ago. Good man. A shame more news outlets today don't hire more like Dr. George. He often spoke of the official gov't forecast vs his own with explanations. Usually Dr. George won And the inversion layer gained 1,000' in all those years. <sigh>
As to Simpson, it is a Liberal Arts University. It is very positive for its students and for providing for the economy of the local area.
Redding, CA Crime Statistics For 2021 Demographics | Crime | Cost Of Living Updated: 2020-12-30 According to the most recent data from the FBI, the total crime rate in Redding is 4,402.2 per 100,000 people. That's 77.74% higher than the national rate of 2,476.7 per 100,000 people and 58.78% higher than the California total crime rate of 2,772.4 per 100,000 people. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...MQFnoECC8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw2Rocg3_2883tzJtUDEBt6m
Acuually those stats are inflated by the state release of offenders here and being a hot spot for the wandering homeless via I-5 and Union Pacific. Crimes are concentrated few specific areas by a tiny fraction of the population and are mostly non violent.
And yet people feel completely safe to play in our many parks, walk along our many in city limits walking/biking trails, and spend the evening in the newly revitalized downtown cultural theater district.
That applies to all towns and cities so Redding would still be one of the most dangerous crime ridden places to live in the US Don't know why you think that a biased video trying to sell Redding helps you
Actually it isn’t. It’s ludicrous to think that a community/city with a population density of about 1,600 persons per square mile is dangerous or crime ridden. We can be perceived as a lightly educated economic backwater no more. https://www.shastaedc.org/lifestyle/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/mon...t-economic-small-cities-in-america/vi-AAXuHEk
Crime rate is 77.74% higher than the national rate of 2,476.7 per 100,000 people and 58.78% higher than the California total crime rate of 2,772.4 per 100,000 people.
And yet since the spike due to the 2008-10 Great Recession, budget cuts, and state dumps of homeless and criminals here, crime is declining year over year and RPD is now back at full strength with additional techniques and LE ideas. The nature of the crime has not slowed growth nor driven folks away. The city is budgeting for nine new police officer positions, which will include the first-ever Redding park rangers. They'll patrol public areas such as the Nur Pon Open Space and Enterprise Community Park. An eighth police patrol beat is in the works to better protect the community. The police department's Crisis Intervention and Response Team (CIRT) is providing mental-health based solutions to "high-stakes situations throughout our community using de-escalation strategies." The Community Services Department received a grant for over $8 million to convert a vacant lot between Panorama Drive and Tamarack Way in north Redding into Panorama Park with indoor recreation facilities. A new mountain biking trail called Salt Creek opened at Salt Creek Heights and Lower Salt Creek to expand the 41 miles of existing trails. Stillwater Business Park is seeing more activity with Pace Engineering finishing construction of its new headquarters there. Five Stillwater parcels have been sold and eight are in escrow. Stillwater, once unoccupied by any tenants, "is now a hotspot for businesses focused on innovation and job growth," Schreder said. Construction has started on the state's first-ever 3D printed home by Emergent 3D at Enterprise Community Park.
As the conservative majority grows the crime rate continues to drop. The crime rate here on a persons per square mile basis is only a bit more than half the statewide average for the same number of people per square mile. Our city of 94k is spread out over 62 square miles. https://stories.opengov.com/reddingca/published/a_qtgRiSX https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/JAo5NfrFJYdrG3QJbjHQQgLtyeQ3kuDGQIWgr9vaRys/document.pdf https://richdevelopment.com/wp-cont...Package-River-Crossing-Marketplace-4.2022.pdf https://images4.loopnet.com/d2/4AL97dKE_eM--vuziUOymf2ARpT80rh_pnYAXTwYIiw/document.pdf https://www.cityofredding.org/home/showpublisheddocument/22088/637079403691500000
