Well… let’s see how this turns out and if he pushes a free speech absolutist policy or not. It looks as if this is actually going to happen. I’m almost surprised. But I’m real curious the changes that may be made.

The dems want to censor theor opposition and prevent open debate. That is always what the left has been about. They know in free, fair, and open debate their ideas lose. Regular people don't actually support the left's open racism, don't want pedophilia be promoted, don't want their standards of living to decrease, don't want open borders, and do not support mutilating and sterilizing children as young as four who cannot concentrate. Yet leftist Democrats openly promote all of those things.

Elon Musk officially owns Twitter. He fired several top executives as one of his first moves, people familiar with matter say.

Musk bought the company for $44 billion, matching the original price he offered earlier this spring, before trying to back out of the deal. The entrepreneur is expected to take Twitter private, loosen its content moderation and possibly lay off thousands of employees.

Musk is said to begin firing Twitter’s top executives

    Thursday, October 27, 2022 8:56 PM ET

The Twitter executives who were fired are said to include Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief executive, Ned Segal, the chief financial officer, Vijaya Gadde, the top legal and policy executive, and Sean Edgett, the general counsel. At least one of the executives who was fired was escorted out of Twitter’s office, said two people with knowledge of the situation.

Hopefully he cleans house, ends to partisan shadow banning, and unbans people who were wrongly banned. I know I got banned for simply posting "The sexual grooming of children is wrong and shouldn't be tolerated."

That was supposedly "hateful and offensive". To whom I am unsure; maybe pedophiles?

They claimed (when I appealed) that the word grooming is some how a slur against gay people. Which it is not as pedophiles can come from all sexual orientations. You have extreme leftist activists working for twitter in the SF Bay area and many gladly abuse their power. I hope Elon does fire many of them (probably after Xmas) and changes policies to prevent obvious partisan abuse.

After all that abuse reduces twitters user base and thus reduces the company's profits.

I read that he fired those who banned Trump and said it will be a platform for everyone. Thank you Elon Musk.

How do I prove that when I was banned? If you Google you will find that Vijaya (who thankfully got fired yesterday) retroactively made saying the word groomer or grooming into a supposed "hate speech" violation even though it has nothing to do with any mythical hate speech and just opposes the sexual grooming of children by any adult. Worse, they did not announce their change until after they started banning people so people got banned for stuff they posted months prior which didn't break any policy at the time they were posted. It is pretty clear they were just banning people for theor political views and were grasping for an excuse to do it; even if they had to defend pedophiles to do it.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/qnotescarolinas.com/twitter-enforces-its-ban-on-calling-people-groomers-as-anti-lgbtq-hate-speech/?amp

It was all based upon a lie too as being against all forms of pedophilia is not specifically anti-LBGT as absurdly claimed by the radical left on twitter.

Racist tweets quickly surfaced after Musk closed Twitter deal
    Drew Harwell
    Fri, October 28, 2022 at 9:23 AM

An emboldened cast of anonymous trolls spewed racist slurs and Nazi memes onto Twitter in the hours after billionaire industrialist Elon Musk took over the social network Thursday, raising fears of how his pledge of unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate.

Twitter has struggled to enforce its rules against harassment and extremism, and the company has not yet published any broad-scale changes to its content-moderation policies.

But Musk, a self-described "free speech absolutist," has fiercely criticized the company's previous leaders as overly rigid and suppressive and said he would work to overturn some of the company's main enforcement mechanisms, such as indefinitely suspending accounts.

    ... https://news.yahoo.com/racist-tweets-quickly-surfaced-musk-142357247.html

Musk is about to get educated in the school of hard knocks now that he owns a social media company for the first time in his life.

Musk has been a part of several great companies (although my Tesla has pretty poor craftsmanship) but I think he might run this one into the ground. He already overpaid by double so it shows either this was an emotional / forced purchase or he sees a ton of value where no one else does.

I think this trend of billionaires owning these platforms is strange though. ConYe with Parler, trump with truth social and now Elon with twitter. So far they seem to largely be failures.

The only good thing I can see out of it is it will shut down both of those other two sites costing their owners millions and then it will allow the world to see trump for who he is again — it cost his party severely in 2018 and 2020 so I welcome it

    Opinion piece:

Elon Musk’s Twitter is going to be a disaster
    Hamilton Nolan
Musk probably bought Twitter for the same reason billionaires throughout history have become press barons: to try to control the conversation

Twitter is free. You can go on there and type your embarrassing little thoughts for the whole world to see any time you like. Millions of us have been doing this for years. Revealing to everyone how dumb your inner thoughts are may cost you your reputation, sure, but it won’t cost you any money. Not even if you’re the richest man in the country.

So why spend $44bn to buy it? That’s a fair piece of change, even to someone whose net worth hovers above $200bn. It’s also much more than the company is actually worth, as evidenced by Elon Musk’s desperate attempt to get out of the deal almost as soon as he had gotten irretrievably into it. The price is too high to be a pure lifestyle purchase – if you want a media property just for the social cachet and party invitations, it can be had much cheaper. Fellow villainous mega-billionaire space tourist Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post for a mere $250m, less than 1% of what Musk just paid for a cacophonous global collection of weird, hollering self-promotion.

In truth, Musk probably bought Twitter for the same reason that sickeningly rich people throughout history have become press barons: to try to control the conversation. About themselves, in particular, and secondly about their own economic interests, and thirdly about their own inevitably selfish, bizarre, half-witted political beliefs. Once you have ascended the ladder of wealth past buying real estate and cars and boats and models and the other tawdry baubles that come with money, there comes a time when a hardworking plutocrat begins to be irked by the fact that, beyond their sphere of servants, people are still talking trash about them. It upsets their sense of omnipotence. After the thrill of bending the material world to their whim has worn off, the desire to bend the public conversation – and, by extension, the public mind – to their own liking takes root.

Quite frankly........If Twitter devolves into a cesspool of ugliness............so what?? Personally I am questioning the value of social media in general...

Social media seems to bring out the worst in society.....and that kind of environment is not mentally healthy for anyone. Musk has a challenge ahead of him...

For starters.....ho w can anyone take this platform seriously............when it is called TWITTER. It might be catchy for juvenile........and it certainly does not encourage the use of proper language.

True. I wouldn't take it any more seriously than I would this place. Social media does tend to be more negative than positive, as it always becomes a playground for people who like to annoy other people, and negative stories elicit much stronger reactions from people than positive ones, so all the news and crap posted on social media tends to be negative. Social media is full of nonsense that only makes sense inside the vacuum of social media.

Ergo, its value is to radicalize people who have no life and lack common sense and to entertain everyone else.

No they don't and I charge these are all egregious lies. What evidence do you have for any of these things?
