Jurors began deliberating Tuesday in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot case accusing Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and four of his extremist group associates of a violent plot to stop the transfer of presidential power from Republican Donald Trump to Democrat Joe Biden.

Federal prosecutors are asking the Washington, D.C., jury to convict the defendants of seditious conspiracy — a rarely used charge that carries up to 20 years in prison and can be difficult to prove.

The defendants also face several other charges, including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding— Congress’ certification of Biden’s 2020 election win.

This is the big one.... so far.... until they get to the true ringleaders...

How long until there is a verdict? Before Thanksgiving sounds like a stretch...
    What are the verdicts?

As the article says, seditious conspiracy is a tough one to prove, but conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding has GOT to be a slam dunk here.... and once you get these bozos on it, there should be dozens more to follow on that charge...

obstructing a meeting.................yeah, call in the major crimes unit

What happened to Insurrection? Enough is enough. How about focusing on the train wreck of an economy? Nah, that would be discussing actual events that impact everyone

If he is found guilty by a jury on all or most counts, I wonder what the conservative posters would say? That is is a political prisoner? He didn't do it? He was never there?

But I do hope he is found guilty. The evidence is overwhelming for the charges he is facing and his own texts will convict him.

Law is the law is the law is the law. And it was not just "conducting a meeting here" like he was on some Board of Directors for a Fortune 500 firm. False analogy?

BTW, since when does the Justice Department and the Federal Courts focus on the economy?

Odds are that they will be back later today. The jury is from a DC pool that will certainly be biased against Rhodes and the statute they are considering is so broad that 2 people camping in a national park can be convicted of Seditious Treason for taking a roll of toilet paper from an outhouse in the park.

Jan 6 was arguably a conspiracy to obstruct an official preceding. But that is actually somewhat common in the political protest world.

"One by one, the protesters, many wearing T-shirts that say "I am what's at stake," interrupt the proceedings by shouting slogans like "You're making a mockery of democracy!" or "Senators: Do your jobs and stop this hearing!" The police then warn that he or she will be arrested for any further disruptions. Minutes later, the person shouts again and is hustled out a side door.

Then another person repeats the process.

Eventually, the back two rows of the hearing room, which are reserved for the public, are empty, and another 20 or so visitors are escorted in from a line outside. They wait for their turn to shout and be arrested.

Overall, 70 people were arrested Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct on the first day..." "...The second day of hearings on Wednesday was marked by the same sort of shout-and-arrest pattern."
    ...
"The protesters are part of a nationwide campaign to disrupt the confirmation process...."
    ...
" "My goal is for this nomination to not go through," said Alison Dreith, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, who was arrested Tuesday. "The stakes have never been higher." "
    ...
"Dreith said she and the other arrestees were hustled down to the building's basement while wearing plastic zip-tie handcuffs and kept in a garage-like holding area. After about five hours, they were charged and released after waiving their right to a trial and paying a $35 fee."

Protesters continue to interrupt Kavanaugh hearings (yahoo.com)

Was Stewart Rhodes provided the option of waiving trial and paying a $35 fee? Did Stewart Rhodes engage in violence?

Are there any members of the forum that are members of the oath keepers? Was anyone from the forum, in DC on 1/6, (not even necessarily storming the Capitol)? I find it curious that I have never read a thread or post by anyone actively participating in these events? We seem to have some fairly hardcore MAGA supporters on this forum which makes me wonder if those people are consider mild relative to the people that attends these type of events. Are there people on this forum that would have liked to be in DC but could not make it due to scheduling or other reasons? Are people that go to Trump rallies and attend these type of political events just on another level as far as political engagement goes? I know many people with conservative views but none go to these events or ever join the oath keepers. On the left I know many people that attended rallies for George Floyd, Trayvon Martin etc... Often these happen downtown where I work and some co-workers drop by at lunch or after work to show their support.

It has nothing to do with bias here. They are viewing the facts with no clear determination of guilt or innocence prior to the trial.

I wouldn't go to anyone's rallies even if it was a block away. I did enough protesting in the 70s to last me a lifetime.

How is a court trial getting in the way of government doing its job for the country? Where do you stand on McCarthy's vow to investigate the DOJ?

I am sure anyone that had to do there business would not be happy about stolen TP.

Maybe people shouldn't storm the USA Capital building, let alone over false election claims.

Don’t worry! The Republican House will be focusing on Hunter Biden (a private citizen with the wrong last name). Surely that will help inflation!!!

    Lets go cons!

Or are you saying no legal proceedings can continue if the economy isn’t where you believe it should be at? Will you be opposed to the aforementioned investigations?

That's what the Dems are saying about the Biden influence peddling syndicate hearings the Reps will be holding. Do you disagree with them?

Imagine thinking sedition is a “selfie test” and a private citizen investigation that has already been investigated is a legal proceeding.

I think our government is capable of doing multiple things at once.
