Why do Democrats/liberals/leftists keep pushing for gun laws they know will be struck?

Democrats / liberals / leftists want to place as many unnecessary and ineffective restrictions on the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms by the law abiding as they can -- the recent Prop 114 in Oregon, the (as always) failed attempt at a new federal ban on 'assault weapons', the various "Bruen response bills" created by CA NY and NJ are just a a few of the numerous examples of same.

The people enacting these laws -know- they will, in toto, be struck under the jurisprudence handed down in v Bruen.

All they have going for them is they can pass these laws faster than the courts can strike them - but they will be struck.

    So... why do they bother?
    Anger? Hatred? Spite? Incompetence?
    Psychopathy?

Doesn't willfully enacting laws you know violate the constitution violate your oath to uphold the constitution?

Easy, all they have to do is wait until they can stack the SC in their favor. There is little real rule of law here any more, just judicial fiats. It's just a game of who can stack the SC, is all.

If you throw enough crap at the wall, some will stick. CA, NY, NJ, and OR have stickier walls.

Maybe it is because guns are a public health problem. We lead the world in mass shootings and the have a gun homicide rate of third world countries.

Given that the vast majority of guns and vast majority of gun owners never hurt anyone, it's a politically based exaggeration to call it a public health problem.

Wokeness is by far a more serious (mental) health issue. It is an excuse that small minded people use to be nasty to others

Well they are politicians and they have to give the illusion of trying. Same reason why House members on both sides of the aisle routinely introduce bills that they know have a zero percent chance of passing. It generates press coverage and it also allows the politician to say "See I'm trying to do something but it's being struck down by those people".

It's the way Congress works. The only other option is to simply sit on your hands and do nothing at all for years until Congress is stacked in your favor then introduce legislation. Constituents wouldn't take too kindly to their elected officials not even trying to do something because they know it wouldn't work.

WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING (even if it doesn't work) has resulted in more harm and bad laws than almost anything in US history

Bernie has had exactly three bills that he's introduced himself passed into law, and two of those were name changes for post offices.

Politicians who pass laws that they know or should know will be struck down as unconstitutional should be personally liable under 42 USC 1983 for interfering with the constitutional rights of their constituents under the color of state law. If the scum bags who pass that crap could be individually sued and liable to those who are inconvenienced-or worse-but stupid laws, that would stop that sort of nonsense rather quickly

Oh trust me I'm with you. I am of the firm belief that the less the government "does" the better it is for society overall. Our government has become WAY too big and powerful at this point well beyond what our Founding Fathers intended.

But tis the world we currently live in. Society wants the government to "do something" all the time and if you are a politician who gets elected and does nothing at all then you're probably not getting re-elected.

If a politician campaigned on the premise of "if you elect me I will do nothing at all but fill a seat and vote against any bill put in front of me because citizens should be in charge of their own lives, not government" then I'd vote for that person 100% of the time. Problem is, I'm not like most citizens.

Most citizens would be like "what did we elect you for if you aren't doing anything?"

Which ironically is one of the reasons I like Bernie being in Congress. He's useless and he's the type of politician I want over there. The type that primarily just fills a seat and does virtually nothing at all. We don't need any more laws period, we have way too many as it is. For every new law passed 2 need to be automatically rescinded at this point. But since that concept would require those who pass laws to pass it into law, which they won't, then the next best thing is to fill up Congress with worthless Reps and Senators who are unable to accomplish anything.

gun banners are a public health problem. They divert valuable public resources to worthless schemes that actually allow violent criminals to flourish and harm the safety of the nation
