I probably started on forums in about 2006 or so, I was late to get on the net, I resisted this tech world a long while.

Anyway, I've found over these years and moderation and rules and and and can be pretty sticky and some forum rules are easy and moderators "easy going". .I'm on several now where the rules are very relaxed and moderators are very passive, and about anything goes but if things get out of hand they step in.

Same goes with members, some tough birds and thank goodness many who are easy get along with.

What say you all on this topic.

Like all media, if you say good things about Democrats, no problem. Say anything about PATRIOTISM and you are labeled RACIST and punished. Same with traditional ideas about the birds and the bees or GoreBull Warming. Tow the leftist line or BEGONE.

I started on forums in the summer of 2002.
    Not 2022 - but 2002.

i started on forums about 5 years ago, i find as an old liberal who doesn't necessarily follow the younger democrats philosphy, i get accused by a half dozen of hardcore RWs of things i am not and therefore post less and less, furthermore i believe the intranets dont represent the majority of Americans but sway to the fringe

I can't stand dishonest people who will sit there and erase 90% of your post and take the remainder out of context to create their straw man.

I suppose that my pet peeves have to do with snarky tough talkers who hide behind their anonymous tantrums while they say/write insults they would never say to your face.

    Enjoy your Thanksgiving,

Generally, people who get banned from sites for breaking the rules always blame the moderators and the rules, not the fact that they got turfed for repeatedly breaking the rules. If they get away with breaking the rules, then it's all love towards the moderators and their rules are great. Sites with no moderation or bad moderation usually end up going down in flames because people leave due to all the insults and nastiness. You can tell when a site has good moderation and rules. I have also been on other forums where threads like this are started to stir up members into complaining about each other or to set people up to complain about the moderators. It never ends well.

On the topic of moderation and rules, many forums do not even have political sub-forums due to the nightmare they cause to moderators. Most moderators are unpaid, don't get a lot of thanks for what they do, and I think more people would break the rules less easily if they could actually see the tremendous amount of work they do. When general members visit the forum, they don't see the alerts that signify that there are forty reported posts to deal with. It takes a fair bit of time to deal with the rule breaches. It takes time to deal with stroppy people who can't accept that they have broken the rules and decide to have a go at the moderators via Conversation. It's also not easy at times to decide if something is a personal attack or some other breach.

You can also thank the staff of this site for providing a platform that catches all the spam in the back channel rather than members being inundated by large amounts of spam posts.

That's what I think. Take it or leave it.

I can respect your position because we do share some values, and there can be a debate on the issues. Like John Stewart, you probably recognize that the path the “progressives” are following is something akin to fascism. They want total control of the political process. They cancel those who don’t agree with them. They form alliances between the government and woke corporations. Those corporations get power and profits in return. They strive to drown out their political opposition with open borders and ballot harvesting. “Democracy” to them is a means to an end, not a core value.

I have probably gone too far for you, but perhaps there are some areas of agreement.

    You're right, we do.
When confronted with a snarky and insulting Post, I try very hard not to respond in kind but can't say that that I'm always successful.

    After all, we're only human.
