This is still happening. Will the perpetrators be caught? Will the corporations need to hire private security:

Palo Alto, eh? Probably just some Stanford University students stocking up for the Spring Semester. Not much money left after fees and tuition.

Large corporations build theft loss like this into their business model. In-store losses whether by their own employees or by street thugs are simply passed on to the end consumer.

They do build theft lost into their business model...but not this kind of theft loss. This was blatant out in the open and consisted of several items being taken all at once. What happened here is not common.

Am I now expected to risk my life to save Apple's assets?

Lots of places have their own private security. Banks and some jewelry stores have had armed guards forever.

$35K worth of product that you can replace for maybe $4K vs. a lawsuit if someone is killed or injured? Let them go. Wouldn't surprise me if Apple has a way to kill the products when they are activated or could if they wanted.

This is just another blatant attempt to make it "OK" to steal products while people sit around and watch. What a disgrace to even think things like this. Liberal policies in liberal cities basically make it a crime to stop people from stealing and it's up to Apple to eat the cost to make sure the criminals are not harmed.

    Pure comedy.

Actually, that insinuation is beyond misguided...
IF the Products can be disabled (and rendered essentially useless, and valueless)...
THEN Why would anybody expect an employee (or random citizen shopper) to risk injury (or possibly worse) stopping the thieves?
The insinuation that Apple Employess (or random "Good Citizens") should have stopped them is the definition of "egregiously misguided"...:smdh:

I just took your words at face value and you insinuated that you support the criminal. It's not the first time I have seen you take that position. Society is better when citizens stand up to criminals and when police stop crimes. Why you feel otherwise is your vice.

    Huh?
All I did was point out Apple's policies (and their ability to disable stolen goods)...
How anybody (who ia a native English Speaker) could have possibly jumped to the "conclusion" that (because I pointed out Apple's Policies) that meant that I "supported the criminal" is completely beyond me...
In fact, such a insinuation (that I "supported the criminal") is scarcely worth dignifying with a response...
However, being the magnanimous person that I am, I have decided to indulge in such a response ONLY to clear up any potential "misunderstanding"...
Glad to clear that up...You're Welcome...:flagus:
    And as far as THIS:
    100% AGREED...
And "1+1=2", and "There is Sand in the Desert", Etc...
    I DON'T feel otherwise...
^Happy to (also) clear that up...

I'm not doing anything to stop a thief if I am an employee with any corporations. My life is not worth their s**** products.

So why not just state that to begin with instead of an insinuation that it is OK to steal because of a store policy? Society is better when the people working in the store stop crime from happening and not just watch it happen.

    EXACTLY, O.Y....
Also, it isn't worth even taking the chance to try to "be a hero" and put the lives of Innocent Shoppers in danger...
Besides, What IF someone tried to "stop the thieves" and then ESCALATED the situation and the thieves pulled out a gun?
The Apple Employees did the Correct Thing...

I predict in the future all merchandise will have to be locked up behind plexiglass cases.

Then another business model will develop where all customers have to pay an annual membership fee and have an identification card to be able to get in the door.

Thefts like this are only going to accelerate the closure of brick & mortar stores and customers having to buy through the internet.

Store employees and business owners are afraid to stop these thieves, afraid that they will get criminally charged. Apparently many on the Left do not believe store owners have a right to use physical force to stop a thief. (That's only for police, and sometimes not even then)

AJ, I love ya man, but I can tell you that iPhones can be ‘rooted’ which completely wipes out everything on the phone and replaced with a clean operating system. I recently did it myself as to remove MDM software. But I do doubt that these criminals know how to do it.

Would only be whataboutism if I thought these thieves shouldn’t be charged and locked up

Who can blame them after George Floyd made cops too scared to do their jobs? Let's get Ron DeSantis into power and this madness can end.

But you claimed earlier that they should follow the store policy and not do anything with "besides" clause. So store employees watch looters and do nthing.

Which is it? What should they do??

Or maybe an elevated police presence instead a "defund" the police policy. When people are not allowed to defend stores and/or stop looters, it devolves society.

In So Cal there are banks with a double set of doors requiring someone to buzz you in and out. If someone tries to rob them they will get trapped between the two sets of doors. They do this in jewelry stores, too.
