I don't know any progressive that thinks "perfect" equality should be a goal.

That's is what Progressives (in your parlance "leftist") believe. I believe that men are created by GOD equal; obviously not equally talented, or mentally gifted; but equal in VALUE to God. Our founders adopted that principal into OUR founding documents; OUR Constitution guaranties that every American will be treated equally in the eyes of their Government. Obviously that covenant has been broken. Which is why there is so much division between us.

There should be no lobbyists handing out favors for special advantage, there should be no tax free think tanks that generate "facts" supporting the desires of the wealthy, corporations should not be treated as "persons" that can dip into vast coffers and literally buy politicians to do their bidding. Wealth is, in and of itself, a huge advantage, it shouldn't be allowed to buy influence in OUR Government to increase that advantage.

No true Progressive believes in any kind of equality that you've found them (all) guilty of.

The goal of every American should be that we are all treated equally and valued equally by OUR Government.

 

I believe the "equal" in the above refers to treatment under law, but the most important part of this prescient declaration is. "...they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights,... ." This takes man and his politics out of the equation [unfortunately to be ignored soon after it was penned].

 

Marxism sounds good in practice. In reality human nature makes its principles impossible to implement. Unfortunately it is our nature to look out for the in group at the expense of the our group.

 

Equality is what the weak [fearful] use in an attempt to justify the imposition of state force to deal with their insecurities.

Equality is impossible, even when it is applied to something as noble as treatment under the law. There are those who will always have more, be more skilled, so on and so forth. You do the best with the hand you are dealt [and generally that's plenty good]. After all, it's almost never how much you have, instead, it's how far you have moved forward in your life that means the most.

No, the founders made OUR Government partners with God in that promise. Government By The People is the first and only Government to make that promise. But the promise of equity in the eyes of God and Country has been corrupted by, “the root of all evil” money.

If every man, woman, and child is guaranteed a decent standard of living then the gap between the lowest and highest of wealth is more or less irrelevant. If you are hosting millionaires but there's not enough to go around for a good, solid minimum income for everyone else then you're not living in a world of equality.

Sadly, we no longer have the rule of law in this country.

 

There should be equal treatment under the law and equality of opportunity, but you are correct that equality per se is contrary to nature and impossible. Utopians don't care about reality.
