The discussion should include EV problems.

Cars that have been inundated for any significant time are almost always written off by insurance companies as a total loss.

So, your argument that the same may happen with an EV just shows you need a recharge.

You came up with NO basis of comparison.

For example, you didn't even TRY to compare cost of maintenance.

    Still can catch fire though

Yes, you are trying for deception based on fear with your "drowned car" example.

How about trying for honest comparisons?

    Is it because you CAN'T?

Nothing compares to EV fire danger in that circumstance.

I am glad gas is not flammable or dangerous, doesn't contaminate the water

that said, your cellphone, tablet, laptops, etc are made of the same batteries and I agree, be nice when safer batteries come around

when those new batteries come, even airlines will ban devices with the old batteries in cellphones and laptops

"They catch fire"? What percentage of the 20 million EV cars out there have caught fire? None of my friends EVs have caught fire.

EV Battery Fires do not bode well for projected sales
    2021 › 09 › 07 › ev-battery-fires-do-not-bode-well-for-projected-sales
    • Recent news about EV battery fires does not bode well for California Governor ... flames over the past four months. So far, 27 EV battery fires and still counting.
about 1 million were EVs. The number of ICE fires was 212,500. The number of EV fires, as pointed out by

Another option that's not really an option.

My Energy Storage Report: Hydrogen As An Alternative To Batteries
    December 04, 2022/ Francis Menton

    • As mentioned in the last post, my new energy storage report, The Energy Storage Conundrum, mostly deals with issues that have previously been discussed on this blog; but the Report goes into considerable further detail on some of them.

    • One issue where the Report contains much additional detail is the issue of hydrogen as an alternative to batteries as the medium of energy storage.

    • The problems with hydrogen, while different from those of battery storage, are nevertheless equivalently huge.

Number of ICE fires 215,000. Number of EV fires 27.

    From the O.P.
The biggest wring is putting politics ahead of innovation. The politicians want to create demand by restricting competition when the market is not ready. Considering in California for example it take 20 years to get permits to build a dam, how long do you think it will take to open a lithium mine? (Not to mention democrats squashed a solar farm in the Mohave desert due to tortoise habitat.)
Then you need to extract the ore.* Then you need to refine the ore nto useable lithium**. Today, that is done in China because they up and did it, where as the USA cannot get out of its own way anymore.

    282 million ICE vehicles
    2.3 million EV's

It bears repeating that the fundamental problem with EV's is that they represent a step backward in capability when compared to ICE vehicles.

And regarding EV fires, it's also worth noting that EV fires are long burning chemical fires that can only be put out with special equipment and chemicals. Very unlike a gasoline fire which every fire department is equipped to handle quickly and efficiently.

So, multiply the number of EV fires by 100, or whatever.

It's still not close, is it?

The reasons for ICE fires include car crashes, fuel leaks, overheated engines, etc.

What you were pointing to was EVs underwater. People shouldn't do that unless the car is made for that.

Correct. The third world is also bigger than the first world and the hurdles to converting to EVs are much different. So India is converting to electric rickshaws that poor people can afford. Good for them. Cheap electric vehicles (including rickshaws) will never be allowed on American roads. They can't possibly meet US FMVSS safety standards to be allowed in to start with. Indian doesn't have US emissions standards either which is why pollution is so bad over there. A couple years ago the big automotive news was some basic, cheap sedan (cost something like $4000 if I recall) and everyone got all upset about why we can't do that here. Simple. The US is a first world country. It wouldn't be allowed by our government. That's also why China hasn't brought any of thier cars here, including that EV that WillReadmore mentioned to the US despite probably 20 years of hype. Playing in the first world is a whole different game.
