I don't know anything about this balloon, but:
many years ago I served in artillery and we sent meteorological balloons to check the wind, pressure and temperature on different
heights, which we needed to make artillery more accurate. We never knew or cared when or were the balloon will fail.
This Chinese balloon for sure is not an artillery balloon because it was located too high. The reminds of the balloon will show us if it was a spy balloon or not.

If they could still steer it then they were able to communicate with it. There is the possibility it could be using an inertial navigation or internal GPS and preprogrammed waypoints. The report I am reading and hearing are they used a sidewinder but it appears as a kinetic weapon as there is no real explosion. But that impact disconnect the senor unit and it went into freefall. Why they didn't use a .50 cal to put a hole in it and bring it down slow over land is curious.

As I said I think Tom Cruise is on location and Bruce Willis is too old to go land on it and stick his knife in and ride it down slowly!!

We need LOTS more information.

 

Well at least it came down in shallower water than expected, why didn't they target the shallower water, and we can recover hopefully it and hope it is not so damaged by the free fall impact and salt water we can get some intelligence about it.

Ok, let’s play out what the left has been saying. They said Chinese balloons over our airspace is not uncommon, we just never hear about it. So if balloons in the past posed no threat, why did Biden choose to shoot this one down? Was there a threat of some sort?

Here’s a possible theory: Biden is being pounded on about our border, about crime, about his spending, about his lack of leadership in general, his stolen classified docs, his son, etc, right? What better distraction could there be than to let a story about a Chinese balloon get out?

The balloons are either a threat or they’re not. If they’re a threat then why didn’t we shoot them down before they entered US airspace and not after they completed their mission? If they’re not a threat then why was this one shot down? I think there’s a awful lot we’re not being told.

 

It was first seen entering Alaska. 1,100 miles of small islands and a ton of open water. I just heard on WION the payload fell in 47 feet of water. If true this should limit the area of the debris field.

 

It takes time to identify whether or not something is a threat. There are Chinese satellite spying on us right now and nothing is done about it.

Nice theory. Don’t believe it. Most Presidents except one in our lifetime listen to their advisors and make a decision on the information given to them. This is no different. This thing was about the biggest non story of the year.

There's no reason to believe we can't retrieve all the parts and pieces of the thing in 50ft of water. But you know whatever they find won't be shared with us regular citizens. It will be like heck yeah we recovered it but all the data was lost. That's how they keep us in the dark.

 

Why would data be stored in a vehicle that cannot be retrieved? You think that the Chinese were going to recapture it when it flies back over china?

 

I'm sure the balloon and it's bus sized instrument array relayed everything it picked up during its several day flight over the US up to Chinese satellites.
