This. I have absolutely nothing against the LGBT community, drag queens, gays, whatever. As long as you aren't hurting other people, you do what makes you happy. Having said that, if you are a guy in a dress, wig, 40DD fake breasts, supergluing yourself to priceless works of art while screaming "Fur Is Murder!" at the top of your lungs, you more than likely have some mental issues....

Shutting down mental hospitals instead of reforming them was a major error in US history

Until we start delving deep within our society to find out where we went wrong, to try to find the reasons and causes, I’ll never take those who just want more and more gun control as being serious about stopping mass shootings and killings. That is until they try to find out the causes and reasons behind them. Even if we ban all guns, the reasons and cause for these mass killings will remain. The killings will go on by other means. Perhaps less victims, perhaps more victims depending on the means these other killings use.

Which will be useless as long as guns are off the table.

Do we have another who doesn’t care why these shootings are taking place, the cause, the reason, just blaming guns and wanting guns gone. I tell you this, as long as the causes, the reasons remain, no one is interested in finding them. They will remain, the killing will continue, but by other means even if guns are completely gone.

I never take anyone seriously about stopping mass killings if they’re not interested in finding out the why’s. Without knowing the causes, the reasons, nothing can be done about them. Yes, more and more gun control to include a complete ban is an easy approach. It’s a feel-good approach. But the sickness that has entered our society since post 1970 will remain. It will continue to fester, it will boil over by other means, some more deadly, some less deadly than guns. But this is our society today, a society that doesn’t want to know the whys, the reasons behind these deadly shootings, killings. Killing has increased from 28 pre-1970, 1900-1970, when there was basically no gun control laws to a couple of hundred, maybe approaching 300 when we have now tons of gun control laws.

I think we’re going about this the wrong way. I seem to be the lone voice in this wilderness, the lone person who wants to find the root causes, the reasons, so we’ll know what they are. Then we can attempt to fix those problems. Everyone else seems to want those problems to stay unknown, hidden. They’re too afraid of what they may find, perhaps they know they won’t like what they find. So, it’s banning guns while ignoring the problem and the reasons behind these mass killings.

every right comes attached to responsibility.

refusing that responsibility, by threatening family or neighbors, by psychotics who refuse to take their medication, by joining a criminal gang, by failing to prevent unauthorized use, etc. should have some consequences.

@perotista 's suggestion that this must be studied is, of course, the first step towards understanding, but at some point we need to add a little of the founders' common sense to our analysis of their "original intent"

Any 'solution' to violence in general includes violence with firearms. It is only useful to separate the two if your goal is to eliminate gun rights.

If you start from a position of understanding that gun rights aren't going away, and that guns are already so pervasive in our society that gaining access to one cannot be prevented for anyone who has their liberty, then mitigating gun violence becomes much easier to understand.

The way to mitigate violent crime (to include gun crime) is to segregate the violent from the peaceable, and to keep them that way until they are no longer violent.

But, as long as there are guns at large in our society, there will be people who abuse them for evil purposes. So no, there is no complete 'solution'.

The present interpretation of the relevant clause of the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, coupled with the political forces involved, all but insure that the number of deaths by gunshot in the US, currently at roughly 120 a day*, will continue. Until a sufficient number of Americans are willing to bring enough pressure to bear on our legislators, it will continue.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n un-shot.

Which is why you don't want guns included in the research.

If we can do the research, find the causes and reasons, we then can take the appropriate actions to fix the problem. Without knowing the causes and reasons, whatever they may be, you’re shooting in the dark so to speak. Trying to avoid finding the reasons behind what has changed in our society since 1970, why only 28 from 1900-1970 with a couple of hundred after 1970 is going at this blindfolded.

Apparently, gun control by itself does no good. If it did, these mass killings would be shrinking instead of climbing to obnoxious levels. This fact totally escapes those who advocate gun control or banning guns entirely. That approached is a failure. I repeat, that approach is a failure. One more time, that approach is a failure. The numbers back up that total failure.

Your approach is like having someone with a brain tumor which causes headaches. You treat the headache with aspirin while totally ignoring the cause, the brain tumor itself. The brain tumor is ignored in favor of aspirin because one doesn’t want to know the real cause or reason behind the headache. One is too afraid of what deeper research will find. Scared to death so to speak.

With you, that brain tumor will continue to grow and expand while you concentrate on the headache with more and more aspirin. Me, I want to get to the root of the problem, the brain tumor itself. You, you’re scared to death what you might find if you try to find the causes and reasons. Just more aspirin, i.e. gun control or banning. Mark my word, with your approach the killings will continue, but by other means. Some more deadly, some less deadly while you continue to dish out aspirin after aspirin. So be it. I realize I am alone in wanting to find the root causes, nothing new there. With everyone else, it’s all about guns, the headache. Not the tumor itself. It will continue to grow and grow within our society. Oh well. That’s life.

As a conservative voice, I believe there are legal remedies. All of which are effectively the punishment of usage or misusage of guns. The right to defend yourself, and the nation is immutable, but misuse of the machines that provide you with that right and set of responsibilities requires legal punishment.

From a policy perspective, the attack on the nuclear family must stop. The institution of the family must be respected again in US policy.

Liberals would tell you that it doesn't matter that they have destroyed the family. it simply creates the crime they want to inflict on the nation and then of course, use as the excuse to de arm the people so they couldn't fight back against their tyranny.

In third world countries the people are disarmed by law. Surely you know that.

When most Americans routinely carry a concealed handgun the peace and advanced civilization will be restored.

Of course there are solutions. Gun violence is exactly the same violence as knife violence, baseball bat violence or any violence involving a weapon. However the weapon itself is not violent- so there really is no such thing as "gun violence". Violence is invariably the act of violent people- and weapons are only misused tools. If you are stabbed and killed with a screwdriver, do we label that "screwdriver violence"? No, because we aren't that stupid. We recognize the screwdriver was used by a violent person and became a weapon because of that violent person.

It's human nature to dodge uncomfortable facts and responsibilities- and blame things on causes beyond their control or their comfort zone for control.

PEOPLE are the common factor. Violent people have always existed and always will. Before guns, the weapon of choice was different- but the problem was the same, and that is people lacking the ability to control themselves, and allowing their emotions to dictate their actions.

Control the violent people- you control ALL violence, regardless of the weapon chosen. WHY do we release a person in jail, charged with FOUR murders, by reducing the bail from 200K to 100K, so he can walk the street? Because we are stupid enough to blame the weapon and forgive the source of the violence. Fix that, and you fix "gun" violence.

Not sure about today's numbers, but back in the 80s and 90s on the federal level, 75% of inmates were there not for murder, but for drug offenses.

I voted no because there are too many idiots that support the 2nd Amendment, same with the politicians.

America's politicians would have to scrap the 2nd Amendment, then bring in regulations like what's in the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc.. Then it would take decades for the results to happen with gun buy back programmes etc..

Until then, countless of American children will be expendable.

America needs a culture change, that will take 3 to 4 generations.

Seems like we always have a surplus of violent criminals and not nearly as many armed people to stop them as we'd like, although the professionals took out the Nashville shooter before they racked up bodies in the double digit numbers.
