Most "illegals" just try to live quiet lives. My wife and her family were one of those. Although to be granted, they fled here politically and overstayed tourist visas. Herself, her mom and her sister had no idea they were "illegals" for years, as their father had gotten forged papers for them to attend school and work. It was only after we got engaged and she demanded her original paperwork that my wife was finally told the truth and that she was an illegal.

And it cost us thousands of dollars (in the early 1980s) to get that resolved. And amazingly, if somebody goes to INS themselves and states they want to be legal, there are multiple programs to allow them to become legal. If somebody goes to them, they actually work in order to fix their status. The vast majority that are deported never do that, they simply get caught and kicked out without ever trying to become legal.

And when somebody is deported multiple times, then my "DGAS meter" falls to absolutely zero. That is somebody that does not give a damn about the laws, and we don't want or need people like that.

And yes, I care about as much about those who were here legally, then broke the law and are deported for that reason. If one comes here they should follow the law. I sometimes wish there was a process for us to deport those criminal scum who repeatedly break the law but were born here.

 

You just invalidated your story by throwing in partisan crap. Funny how liberals are blamed for letting in too many immigrants and for being “liberal” and too soft on illegals and yelling at 5 year old immigrant kids to go back to where they came from.

Multiple defenestrations and multiple illegal entry is a very bad problem. We cannot solve that problem not even with Trumps mythical wall. It would take a sealing up such as an iron curtain or Berlin Wall which did not work 100%. A total sealing up of our borders is politically unobtainable.

That is your opinion albeit a wrong one. No I was not targeting Reagan and I. even said that his amnesty program was not all his fault. I said that we ignored the illegal problem so long that we were caught in a situation that we had to have an amnesty program. The illegal problem was ignored by both political parties.

One had to live in the US for at least five years. Have absolutely no criminal record past minor traffic infractions, have paid taxes, and apply for the program and pay a fine ($500, .$1,357 today).

Even if that was still in effect today, this individual would not have been eligible as he was already a criminal. And breaking the law even before he shot those people.

I actually agree with that amnesty, and found it a fair solution. And it legalized almost 3 million people. Yet, you are placing blame on that? And you are for some reason blaming both parties, when one actually put in place a system to make them legal? Which by the way was a bipartisan program that was actually opposed most strongly by Democrats (oh the irony).

You seem to have a funny hatred of illegals, and at the same time think everybody in this country hates immigrants.

 

Absolutely know what amnesty program was and it made practical sense. I also support a law that would allow dreamers to become legal and even citizens.

I do not hate illegals I do consider them to have committed a crime at some level not a felony though for illegally crossing our borders. No I did not say that the entire country hates immigrants.
Both parties did fail to address the illegal immigrant crises and as I said it had to be resolved because it is not practical to throw them out as some want to. The one thing that I would be very opposed to is for illegals to have the right to become citizens. Dreamers that is another story. Now those who had their status hidden from them by their parents I of course would want them to have a path for getting legal and for citizenship.

 

Morality and values are taught. If not the home, where else are they taught? Surely not in the public schools.

 

To get detailed the wall in my opinion is to restrict and constrict high volume crossings. The wall is not practical in low volume crossings. Patrols electronic surveillance drones and other high tec is needed in the low volume areas.

I am specifically talking about when I was a child. So do not tell me to “toughen up” retrospectively. Don’t tell me that has happened to everyone you know that is not true. By the time I was a teen I fought my own battles and ran interference for my parents. I was not a 5 year old anymore.

There were other incidents but not like the Bible woman. Some were actually laughable and performed by the hopelessly ignorant. When we moved into our first single family home and met the first neighbor next door he spoke in an extremely loud voice at my parents. I heard this happened to parents of some of my fellow immigrant friends. So I asked him why he was talking so loud to my parents. He claimed it was so they would understand him better. I explained to him that they were foreign born not deaf. He was taken aback by what I said and told me that I was a bold one. I recall saying yep. In his mind he thought he was being helpful. He did not care for me being bold to adult. TS,!

I am not crying. My point is that certain attitudes against immigrants existed long ago and are repeating. That “bible woman” likely a profound hypocrite complained in her round about way that I stole jobs from Americans. Obviously she being a coward would have preferred to yell at my parents but I was an easy target too young to fight back. You must admit that we hear that immigrants especially illegals take jobs away from Americans now days. Really ! How many Americans or even legal residents want to pick fruits and vegetables. Or work in slaughter houses meat packing plants. You know the answer. So my dads first job when we got here at harvest time was to pick vegetables. I was too young but heard the story many times. The farmer paid my dad whatever it was but also sent him home every day with some food. When winter came my dad got a job sweeping floors in an insurance company.
So did he take a temp job picking vegetables away from an American ? Not likely. Sweeping floors ! Hope not!


What happened to you should never happen to a kid or anyone who is not able to fight back. I am not at all trying to equate what you endured with physical assaults to the verbal crap thrown at a five year old. What happened to you is a thousand times worse than what I was subjected to but both within their relative space wrong.

Not that it matters much, I was 5 years old as well when I had my experiences. And all that with my Dad just watching. It was a very profound me-against-the-world time of my life. Best bet for a 5 year old is to keep your head down and roll with the punches when they come.

The Bible woman is just an example of hypocrisy. I recall my moms remark when I went into the house to ask her what a DP was and tell her that some woman yelled at me. My mom said that the woman was a Baptist that they do not like us. Then ‘go ride your bicycle. ‘. A DP was a Displaced Person a term used in a U.S. immigration law and the UN agency that dealt with DP’s after WWII.
I am a registered Republican since John McCain ran the first time. The Democrats got too liberal diberal for me.

 

I am still trying to figure out how they would even know your status.

 

Simple. It was the early 1950’s. The street where we had our first half livable rent was a working class neighborhood. There were a scattering of recent Post WWII immigrants who moved in about the same time. They stood out as my parents did because they spoke with an accent. Word spread and immigrants were easily identified.
