A qualified president can handle pressure and deal with adversity. I don’t care what benefits Trump. The last president who ducked debates was Jimmy Carter in 1980. The election didn’t work out well for him.

I wonder why the cheatin’ democrats don’t “engineer” more state elections and down-ballot elections so that they can actually govern. Wow! What a big flaw in their devious plans!

All of the significant power is with the Federal Government.

Not to govern state by state, locally or by the school board. BTW, the GOP would disagree with you, and it would be correct. You most keenly feel a local government in your everyday life, not the federal government.

Generally speaking I agree as whole, but I think there's important nuance when it comes to the discussion of Republican debates.

If you live in a liberal city in a liberal state like San Francisco, for sure local government, policies, and regulations you will feel the most. You notice it when you have to dodge human feces and needles and your convenient stores are no longer convenient because everything is locked up and you need an employee to get each item individually for you after you press a button on a lock in front of each product you want and wait five minutes for a kid to show up and hand you your dental floss and hair conditioner. Then you have to carry it all home by hand because it's illegal to give you a bag to carry it home in, and you don't take canvas bags to work with you when you're most likely to stop at a convenience store. Then you have to tapdance around a homeless person's tent trying to get into the door of your dinner reservation because they purposely put it there to force a social interaction where they could demand money from you trying to get into the fancy restaurant. But, then they passed out or died from fentanyl so they're not awake anymore, but the police won't move them because it's against their policy to inconvenience homeless people or get them help. At that point it doesn't matter what the federal government does, the local government ruined everything already anyway.

But, if you live in a rural part of a conservative state like Montana you will feel the federal government more because the local government is so relaxed and less regulated.

Montana is more progressive than I thought it was.

Montana’s landmark climate ruling: three key takeaways

The Federal Government takes the most in taxes. It sets energy policies which has considerable influence over the economy and prices. It now dictates what appliances you can buy. It bound and determined to decide what vehicle you can drive.

More and more of these powers and policies are dictated by the executive branch and the bureaucracy it supposedly controls. Congress has less and less power as more members of Congress defer to the bureaucrats. In the past, Congress guarded its powers, regardless of which party controlled it. Now that is no longer true.

Yes, local government has powers, but more and more it is under the control of the feds through grants of money which are dependent upon obeying federal policies.

The mess at the southern border, which is the result of Biden’s refusal to enforce the law, is burying local government.

No, the Federal Government has become tyrannical. It has taken on so much in its current power grabbing mode that it has become too big to succeed and too arrogant to listen.

    2. Require every federal employee to take a new patriotism exam and they will be terminated if they refuse to take them or fail to pass. 4/14/23

    3. He will build 10 new Trump "freedom cities" around the country which will be free of any government regulations. 4/14/23

    4. He will appoint federal judges in the mold of Clarence Thomas. 4/23/23

    5. He will have DOJ subpoena local DAs and their staff and remove them from office if he determines that they are failing to do their job to his satisfaction. 5/4/23

Trump right now is riding at 57.3% in the GOP primary polls per RCP average with a 43.8 point lead over his nearest competitor.

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/e..._republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html

I’d say not debating is good political strategy taking the above into consideration. In a 9-candidate field, most of the others are short of money for political advertisement and to gain name recognition, why debate them? With so many candidates running, Trump could win the nomination by garnering around 35% of the total vote since the other 8 candidates would be splitting the remaining 65% among them. At 57%, there’s very little today to be split. Trump is going to win the nomination.

Then to be fair to Trump, at least the Republicans are having debates which allows Trump to skip them. The democrats have announced they will have no debates at all. I don’t see how a political party refusing to have any debates can criticize Trump for skipping the GOP debates. As for the indictments, they happened and I consider them fair play in any debate. The indictments are something somewhere along the line or campaign trail Trump must confront. But I suspect he won’t until the trials begin sometime in March of next year. Then there’s no hiding from them.

Regardless, as for the debates, skipping them is sound political strategy for Trump. Just like in 2020 with Biden staying in his basement away from the cameras letting Trump be Trump 24/7 was sound political strategy. It worked. For the primaries, staying away from the debates will work also. Then comes the general election campaign, they’ll be no hiding from the indictment nor hiding in the basement once that begins, the general election campaign.

He needs to show that he is decent presidential candidate who can beat someone other than Joe Biden. You can see the movement in the Democrat Party. Joe needs to go, and he’s gone, Trump will have face a slick talker, most likely Gavin Newsom, who will take Trump apart with charm and good looks.

Trump does nothing but speak to his base. He will be unprepared for the slick haired, slick talking snake oil salesman from California.

It's not about cowardice, it's just a political tactic. By refusing to debate his opponents, he refuses to acknowledge them as being actual opponents. He is treating things like he's the presumptive nominee already. Not like Biden would debate anyone who's declared for the D primary either even if they were having a debate... for the same reason. 2016 was different because Trump wasn't far and away leading the polls for the nom. Neither was Biden. So both needed the debates to try and win over primary voters. If a candidate starts to seriously rise in the polls as a legitimate challenge to Trump, he'll have to go debate them to try and knock them back down. But until such time, he doesn't have to and can only hurt himself by doing so right now.

As do I. But I don't see it happening. And I don't see any incentive for him to debate at this time.

Not likely, and the greater the effort to keep him off the ballot, the more his support is likely to grow.

And then he will lose on Election Day, even if Joe Biden is his opponent. Trump is unelectable.

Chris Christie called Trump “Donald Duck.” That is a great nickname.

I don't know why anyone pays attention to these debates anyway, I don't find them useful. Why not just a series of interviews so each candidate can explain his policies without interference?

All trump ever gets is butt kissers.
That's why he had highest turnover in his cabinet picks and other WH jobs.

A big reason to not take people seriously.
    Bad perceptions.
    Bad reasoning.

The lame stream news media would not televise them, and most of people won’t listen to them. The debates draw a significant audience.

As a matter of answering the "Primal Scream" from the disenchanted working class the ideas have merit.
Rather than poke fun, look around, take the issues for what they are: a satire of our decrepit nation.
Where capitalism "recycles" inefficient capital (through bankruptcy and/or acquisitions) there is no reconstruction system for bloated cancerous government other than disintegration of the country by having its money rejected by its trading partners. We are getting close. Too close.

There are some things on that list that Conservatives would like, but most of them sound like a deranged individual.
That's actually a little scary, when one thinks about it.
Anyone who supports that list or anyone who endorses that list isn't following the guidelines outlined by the founding fathers of this country.

Trump spews insanity and his devotees eat it up until the next round of madness comes out of his mouth.
No questions asked, ever, cause that would interfere with their blatant stupidity.
It's mentally and morally sicker to follow a deranged guy than it is to be the amoral guy himself.
