Outrageous taxation. Why do you stay in CA given how much you hate it? Seems quite silly to stay there.

It is like what my wife used to say about a Mercedes. It costs a lot of money to build something that ugly.

It costs a lot of money to run a state that badly.

It would have just been built into the price before. California switched their excise tax system last year. Used to be that weed retailers paid 27% to distributors based on the wholesale price and then the distributors paid it to state. Under the new system, pot sellers have to collect and pay it in at 15% and face hefty penalties if they don't or miscalculate it which this particular retailer seems to be doing as it should have collected $6.30 not $6.22

Our daughter lives in California and has wanted to get out for several years.
    They can't.
Between the "mansion tax", the leaving tax and a dozen other bullshit taxes and regulations it would cost them over $1 Million to get out. To sell their house, close her business, and move away.
All I can tell her is, you get the government you deserve.

Yes, like giving illegal aliens free housing, free food and free medical care, including "the right" for Juan to become "Juanita" if he/she/they so choose, all on the taxpayers' dime.

The so-called "fair tax" is one conservative idea that I strongly oppose. It is highly regressive on low income people which would necessitate another income redistribution program to make it fair. There is also the strong possibility that that we would end up with both a national sales tax and an income tax when then government found that it didn't have enough money to do "what is necessary."

Never give government new sources of income via new taxes. If the government ends up flush with cash, it will find ways to piss it away or give it out to cronies. Government has no incentive to do things well or efficiently. Doing thing well implies that there is no need for growth in government, and many politicians in both parties are totally against that.

It's no wonder so many people are leaving the state.

Over 50% of the population in this country pays 0% ZERO PERCENT Federal income tax. Everyone ought to have skin in the game, either that or they will vote themselves FREE **** until the country is totally bankrupt.

There should be ONE tax rate for all voters in this country.

I laugh at people who make claims about how terrible California is and that people are leaving the state because of politics. I hope millions of us Californians take heed and move the hell out as soon as possible. All of you disgruntled Californians, just move out. Go to Texas or Tennessee for all I care, take your grumpiness and go somewhere else. The fewer people in California, the better for those of us who love it here. As for the very tired remarks about our economy, we don't give a damn what you think about our economy.

Born, raised, educated, had a business in California ... and got out.

California had a lot right when I was younger. I went to Long Beach State and paid $60 per semester--that's right, sixty dollars--and I was happy to support higher education anyone could afford. Sadly, pols running the state lost their way and we see crushing taxes supporting a growing bureaucracy. Tuition today is nearly $7,000, ten times what it would be if the tuition had kept pace with inflation.

That must have been in the late 60s or early 70s. Didn't Ronnie start raising tuitions first? Politicians did not ruin California, we are still doing great. The big change was in population. When we grew up in the 60s and 70s, we had half as many people as we do now and because of geography, all those new people got crammed into the same spaces. That is what has changed, too many damn people.

I agree that everyone should have some skin in the game and contribute to paying for government programs. Young Bush was proud when he got a lot of citizens off the Federal Income tax rolls.

There is a problem when people can vote for freebies because that is what most of them will do.

I think all the liberals in Florida who hate our governor and our traditional redneck ways, should move to California just as quickly as possible. You'll love it there. It's a progressive Paradise

While I did live n CA for 21 years, I’m now in New Mexico. Even though NM leans left, the people here aren’t far left progressives and reject many of the policies California has.

And only tax payers should vote with exceptions for retirees and the disabled who can’t work.

California is actually considering a two tiered capital gains tax now. If you sell your house and don't buy another one in the state, you pay a higher rate. They're trying to make leaving more expensive.

And the Netherlands in part are a very nice place to visit because they are maintaining the country well thanks to.....a 21% VAT on EVERY item you buy there. And they tacked on a bit more on top of that for your tourist tax.
SO I'm not sure your logic checks there.

When you factor in the sales tax, the state income tax, and the corporate tax, it ends up adding up to 23%.
