Again a good lawyer can get a GJ to indict a ham sandwich. A GJ indictment is literally factually relevant for nothing. A prosecutor can simply present whatever "facts" he asserts even if he has other facts which refute the assertion.

Still no facts? Andy McCabe would disagree with you.

The DOJ knows what it must prove. So did the GJ, which you with nothing but rank guesswork, claim was "lied to" by the DOJ.

    He will be convicted.

So, where does the GOP "investigation" go from here? Its "mountain of evidence" has been leveled.

I suggest a Republican DA charge him with jaywalking. Then when he's asked what he was doing it for he can say bringing information about Biden's corruption to a Republican lawmaker. Then we can question him all we want about it.

No one of two things will happen. Either they string it out until after the election and then drop the charges.

Or most likely they offer him a slap on the wrist and probation to say that he lied or send him up for 20 years if he doesn't. And he will choose a slap on the wrist.

He will either plead guilty, or he will be convicted. Pleading guilty would save Comer Pyle of some of the stinging embarrassment that he now feels.

Indicted ex-FBI informant told investigators he got Hunter Biden dirt from Russian intelligence officials
    By Hannah Rabinowitz, CNN
Updated 8:18 PM EST, Tue February 20, 2024

CNN — The former FBI informant charged with lying about the Bidens’ dealings in Ukraine told investigators after his arrest that Russian intelligence officials were involved in passing information to him about Hunter Biden, prosecutors said Tuesday in a new court filing, noting that the information was false.

Prosecutors also said Alexander Smirnov has been “actively peddling new lies that could impact US elections” after meeting with Russian spies late last year and that the fallout from his previous false bribery accusations about the Bidens “continue to be felt to this day.”

Smirnov claims to have “extensive and extremely recent” contacts with foreign intelligence officials, prosecutors said in the filing. They said he previously told the FBI that he has longstanding and extensive contacts with Russian spies, including individuals he said were high-level intelligence officers or command Russian assassins abroad.

It’s delusional to think they got an indictment with no evidence at all.

    It’s worse than you think.

1). Initially the AG (Bill Barr) tasked the U.S. Attorney of Pennsylvania (Scott Brady) with vetting the information Rudy Giuliani uncovered in Ukraine. Brady met with Giuliani.
This is where the allegation first arose.
    Enter Smirnov and FBI Handler.

    2. Scott Brady’s office closed its assessment with concurrence of the Deputy AG (Donahue) and another Trump DOJ appointee.

    3. Allegation stands.

    4. House Committee Hearing blows up when Democrats challenge the veracity of the allegation citing contrary evidence.

    5. Bill Barr responds to House Committee Hearing fiasco in The Federalist (July 2023). He stated D’s were wrong the assessment wasn’t closed and he had sent it to US Attorney of Delaware (David Weiss) for further investigation (October 2020).

6). FBI requests Weiss’s assistance with Smirnov allegation.

7). Hunter Biden’s plea deal with Weiss becomes public.

8). We know the response to the deal.

9). Smirnov FD-1023 is made public by Congress (Grassley).

10). Language of Plea Deal changes blowing up the deal.

11). Smirnov indicted. Weiss easily debunks allegation with travel records (as both Raskin and Abbe Lowell contended).

Somebody is lying here(Barr, Weiss, all of them?) The allegation wasn’t vetted at the most basic level but simply passed around from one Trump appointee or loyalist to another for years. Only the weight of a discovery demand in a legal setting prompted the follow-up.

It smells like an attempt to frame a sitting U.S. President

It certainly does, doesn't it?? Didn't this "informant " get his "information from Russia??
What a convoluted web some are prepared to create .....against their opponents.

Kudos to Biden for handling this in his mature and responsible way. He did not go off half cocked threatening everyone that tried to attack him.

Is anyone really shocked that mango and his team would attempt this obvious frame set up? It still won't matter to Trump adoring rightists, their entire diet is mango Kool aid.

Do Trump supporters push a button to generate the standard rationalizations?

    Seriously?

Every time Trump, or one of his henchmen get indicted, there’s always a little chorus of Trumpsters yelling this “ham sandwich” line.

    Yeah. Imagine that.

Smirnov gets indicted, then he says it's Russian disinformation.

How long before the charges are dropped?...lol

    Not at all.

A lot of us have always known that this Hunter Biden trope was fed to Guliani by the Russians.

Barr made sure no serious vetting went on, even as the right wing noise machine was promoting it loudly, and as every Trump disciple on this board were parroting the allegations.

Of course, the attempted smear didn’t affect the 2020 elections, but it became the recieved word to Trump nation, which found the lie even more appealing as they began to follow Trump’s open fealty to Vladimir Putin.

Adding a tiny mango mushroom tip into the mouth of that elephant would make it a perfect illustration of what the GOP in Congress has become.

I wonder when they are going to arrest all of those who lied about Trump's Russian collusion?

Um, no. I was referencing your comments about "nazis and commies".

No one is weaponizing the DOJ. Biden has taken a hands off approach when it comes to the DOJ and even appointed milqetoast Garland as AG. He was very wise to differentiate himself to President Tiny Hands.
