I originally found this article through FARK. And if their comments section is any indication, I am not the only one irritated by them adding extra vowels into words unnecessarily.

It is "Color", not "Colour". It is "Armor", not "Armour". It is "Honor" not "Honour". Even this site's spell checker agrees with me.

"I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less" has to be the worst. Opposite meaning of what they're trying to say. Jonathan, Birmingham

    That is quite annoying :D

I actually figured that one out myself a long time ago. Until now I always assumed I was saying it wrong, but the other way doesnt make sense.

20 and 22 are wrong. Yes, it is a Train Station.

In the comments section someone brought up how the Brits insert an extra syllable into "Aluminum". There is only one "i" in that word. I don't know where they are getting their pronunciation from. Yet another example of them stuffing unwanted vowels into words.

I read this this morning on the BBC website, and although I agree with some of the phrases being annoying like "my bad" and "americanisms". Most of them just proves the point the Brits are uptight, knit pickers.

In retaliation I have to say that my number one pet peeve of "proper" English is the pronunciation of evolution. How does pronouncing it evilution make any sense, is that the evolution of demons?

And in good fun I would add "I can't image" and the misuse of "literally" as phrases that make me grind my teeth a bit.

English was spoken before 1492, you know.

You should use a spell checker that knows how to spell :)

..........and remember that Americans are too lazy to spell correctly, but when I do it the American way, it isn't laziness on my part, just my absolute need to be loved by you and nobody else but you......................alone.

The one that gets me is, same difference. Either two things are the same or they are different. The correct term is no difference.

"My bad" and "I could care less" irritate me as well, but "Expiration date" is a problem? "Two-time" causes someones blood pressure to rise? I think some of these Brits need to wash the sand out of their vaginas.

Supposedly they pronounce it "zed", though I have never ever heard a Brit say "z" like that.

Most english speakers throughout the world pronounce it correctly as "zed". Only Americans get it wrong. And a stripey horse is a "zebra". NOT a "zeebra".

The one that pisses me off the most is #36.

No, it is not "Maths". The only way I would ever say "Do the maths" is if I was deliberately trying to sound stupid to be ironic. There is no sentence where the plural of "math" would be appropriate.

Aluminium is spelt aluminium and pronounced al-u-min-i-um. Always has been.

It is a metal. Look at your Periodic table - do you see "plutoninum" "Uraninum"? "Americinum"? No. So why on earth would aluminium suddenly become "aluminum"?

Yes - dictionaries have been written for illiterate Americans. Funny isn't it.

But sorry, no - for the rest of the world's english speaking people - it is ALUMINIUM

Most countries use the spelling aluminium.

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) adopted aluminium as the standard international name for the element in 1990.... IUPAC prefers the use of aluminium in its internal publications

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium#Etymology

Got any sodinum? Potassinum? No, didn't think so
