Perhaps he was just a natural born coward who carried a gun for bragging purposes and to prove he was big, bad and brave. (there are many like that). Fact, I have used a weapon in my defense and in the defense of the US, I do go legally armed, and if the chance arises I will use my weapon for my defense and the defense of others. Many people that have never heard shots fired in anger, freeze the first time. Or, as I said, he could just have been a coward.

Withing 5 miles of my home a gentleman in Norfolk Virgina shot an armed robber who fires shots while robbing an liquor store. He WAS and Is an NRA member. I personally stopped a robbery at a seven-eleven in 1983, but then, I am not and never have been a member of the NRA, I find them to be to right wing radical for me. Oh, I own more than a couple dozen firearms of assorted type.

As for me, I may be shot by some nut, but, given a few seconds I will go down with a gun in my hand. I will NOT be an unarmed target, nor will I allow other Americans to be one, while I am able to fire back.

There are relatively few full-auto AK-47's in the US. Most of the weapons that the press call an AK-47 are actually look-a likes that do not even use the same action and are semi-auto only. Oh, when I say most, I mean that I am not aware of a single incident in which a full auto AK was used in a mass shooting. Every incident I have bothered to research as actually a semi-auto look-alike. That does NOT mean that there have been none--it just means I am unaware of any. Oh, and if some nut comes after you with what looks like an AK--please pray it is a full auto version and not semi auto. The point, pull and pray method with which most people around the world, including those in various militarys is highly inaccurate. And after the first 3 seconds of fire, the weapon is empty and they have to reload, that is a great time for that evil NRA gun-toting nut to pull his 45 and blow the sucker away.

    Do ya GROK??

I suspect many of the gun grabbers would prefer it. They NEED violence. Then NEED drive-bys. They NEED school shootings. They NEED this to push their agenda.

Should I make anything of the fact that the HuffPo article cited in the OP has taken out the excerpt quoted in the OP?

Swagler apparently didn't have his weapon on his person, it was in his restaurant and he forgot completely that it was there until after the fact. I guess the HuffPo jumped the gun and the OP got left holding the bag.

I agree spray and pray doesn't work; that's part of why the third world sucks at fighting (lack of training and organization being another, on top of tech of course).

I will say though that while I haven't done it my Romanian AK looks like it could be easily converted to full auto. All I'd have to do is get rid of a part of the weapon that catches when the bolt flys back and BAM, full auto. So unless I'm missing something that would cause the weapon to blow up in someones face, conversion seems pretty easy.

This man made up his mind of what he was going to do; he was doomed from the start, a person like this would not be inhibited by a gun because he was going to kill himself anyway. To say that this event nullifies the affect gun wielding citizens have on crime, is the same as saying that because Casey Anthony and OJ got off that nobody will ever think twice before confronting the American Justice system, I mean hell you DON'T actually have to do it for them to put you away just ask the West Memphis Three.

i think its that liberals need the criminals protected from being killed, mainly considering thugs and gang bangers will vote liberal.

furthering my point, there are people out there who do not fear death or have finally cracked/gone "postal" these people will not be inhibited by a fire arm, this does not prove that Criminals won't think twice before invading my home or business in fear that I may have a gun. There has been a "war on drugs" for decades but there are still dime bags and dope heads from coast to coast, the government cannot control fire arms anymore than drugs. I'll keep packin thanks.

The reason you can own a couple dozen firearms of assorted type is due to the efforts of the NRA.

As a lifetime member, I would suggest that you support them so that they can continue protecting your right to arm yourself.

What part of the NRA is right wing radical to you?

While the full auto ak fires from the Open Bolt position, the semi-auto look-a likes are designed differently, the fire from the closed bolt position. Closed bolt weapons are not easily converted to full auto. When and if a home-made conversion is made, they generally are not safe or very usable since they usually fire every single round in the magazine with the first pull of the trigger. When sears are filed down enough on a closed bolt, the mere shock of a round being fired causes the sear to slip and fire the next round.
The reason AK look-a likes are made to fire closed bolt is so they will not be easily converted to full auto.

Like I originally said, even though I am not a betting man, I would be willing to bet that the weapon used in the IHOP was a full auto AK.

That's why we need background checks to weed out the mentally deranged. But of course "gun enthusiasts" and "sportsmen" don't like that idea.

Don't blame the ACLU. It is Republican budget demands that eliminated funding to mental health organizations. In California, it was Republican governor Pete Wilson who did this.

This is a vast pile of liberal bile.

This is again incorrect; the only facility closed down under Wilson's watch was Camarillo State Hospital. Let's examine the reasons for this.

Pete Wilson, then-governor of California, announced in January 1996 plans to close down the hospital by July 1997, citing low patient numbers and rising costs per patient. Various members of the community, family members of patients, and employees of Camarillo made several last-ditch efforts to keep the hospital open, arguing in part that current patients were already accustomed to the facility and questioned where they would go. Some tried to get mentally ill criminals placed in Camarillo in an effort to save it, a proposal that had come up several times before, but again community members were concerned of the risk of criminals escaping into the community. Governor Wilson ended up standing his ground and the hospital closed down in late June 1997, with the patients and research facilities moved to other locations.

How are liberals to blame for this? The guy that shot the people is (*)(*)(*)(*)ing to blame, not liberals.

Where's the conservative shame at all the people who jumped on the Virginia Tech shootings when all the conservatives came out of the woodwork to insist that arming everyone would have stopped the shooter.

The NRA is not the reason I can and do own weapons of any kind. That is because of the Constitution and the Millions of American voters.
    As far as radical goes:
The NRA voted an insane and total nut to be their president - Charlton Heston.
The NRA refuses to support anyone running for any office if the do NOT support entirely the NRA policies. The will refuse to support anyone who may be the best option for the nation, strictly because there may be someone else, no matter how stupid, that supports the NRA. Gun ownership is a wonderful right, BUT, it is not the only one.
In MY state of VA, the NRA was actively campaigned against such things as a three day waiting period on purchasing handguns and a limit to the number of weapons purchased in a month. Both of these are reasonable laws, especially since they both included provisions for exemption in special cases.
The NRA is an organization with an income of around 200 million dollars which is controlled by a very few people. It along with the AARP are the two most powerful lobbies in the nation, and I for one think that the rise of lobbies in American politics is HORRIBLE.
Over the years I have voted for democrats, republicans and independents for local state and federal office. I have never and NEVER will vote for anyone on ONE ISSUE. Personally I believe the NRA and the AARP should both get out of politics. Politics should be about an individual choice, not the twisted promotions of the leaders groups and organizations.

I am not a joiner, I believe in independence and freedom. I have never joined any political party, because they are too ONE WAY in their beliefs, nor have I joined any organizations from college frats to the AARP.
I believe in gun control, logical, reasonable and lawful gun control. Unrestricted ownership of guns, as some organizations promote is stupid and ignorant and scary. I have handled, fired and/or owned weapons from the size of a 105 cannot, to a bean shooter, and for a great many of them, other than in a collection or museum, I see no purpose in personal ownership.
While the NRA is less illogical in its radical actions, it still does NOT suit my needs, actions or beliefs. It is far too right-wing-one-way in its policy and actions for me.

You mean simply noting the obvious, that the lefts demands for gun free zones are really demands for free fire zones? Why should anyone be ashamed at trying to save lives the left casts aside on the alter of political correctness?

If it was not for the NRA and organizations like it, your 'right' under the Constitution would be the perverted 'collective' right and would be more of a privilege anyway with government granting it or withholding it on their whim.
