Kind of a circular argument: "marriage is only for heterosexuals because marriage is a heterosexual institution." There is no more reason for it to be a 'heterosexual thing,' than there was for voting to be exclusively a practice for men.

*shrug* I honestly don't care if you consider a same sex couples marriage to be "real" or not -- I just care whether the law does. You're entitled to your own prejudices (as I am to mine). Laws that rob folks of their civil rights based on these prejudices are a more serious issue. I thought it was unreasonable to ask a black person to drink from a different water fountain. I think it's more unreasonable to refuse to share a word with a couple, just because you don't think your kind is more entitled to it than theirs.

You seriously need to get a better arguement than marriage is between a man and a woman......Serious next you will be proposing that gays should have to wear an identifier and that we should impose slavery for blacks.

And the fact that homosexuals can't really be married OMFG please you see so many heterosexuals getting married one day and divorced the next.

Common sense. Not allowing a free vote means he has something to be afraid of.

Those people should be forced out of their jobs by the very person they sacked in the first place.

Are you sure there are no other options? What is he afraid of do you think? Do you think that he`s a latent homosexual, and is afraid that he`ll want to marry Wayne Swan, or something similar? Tim Matheson?

We aren`t exactly spoiled for choice in political representation. I look at it this way, anyone who can make Tony Abbott look good by comparison, shouldn`t be running a single bay car wash, let alone a Nation. We all know Abbott is an accomplished academic, and expected to be a bit of a dopey knob, but he is way out of order.

Who else could step up when the ALP completes it`s flaming, howling nosedive? Shylock the merchant banker? I don`t think so!

If he marries Wayns Swan, he`ll need to keep a close eye on the household accounts. If he runs off with Timbo, he`ll need to keep looking over his shoulder, so Big Jules doesn`t smite him with the big strapon.

To be unable to fulfil the criteria for marriage, ie. a heterosexual couple of opposite sexes, isn`t denial of a right, it`s just reality. I`d like to be an astronaut, but I don`t fulfil the criteria, I`m mature enough to accept the fact.

No the difference is you most probably do not have the skills to be an astronaut, whereas the only thing stopping gays from marrying are space cadets that seen scared to even share a legal entity with them

Space cadets eh? Is that it? Or is it just a sour disposition towards western society. Don`t forget, respect needs to be a two way street to function properly. You may not value marrige, or you may have had bad experience, but some people do value heterosexual marriage, even successfully centre their lives around it. Respect them.

As long you also respect those same sex couples who value marriage and may even choose to center their lives around it. Two way street.

Granting other people the respect you request for yourself is a one way street? But respect becomes a two way street if only the folks who share your prejudices are respected?

It`s not prejudice, although hysteria might claim it to be.

Liberals are pushing Abbott to give them a conscience vote. Even the Liberals believe they have a right to express their opinions!
Shame on Abbott for ignoring them.

Has anyone noticed latetly that nearly all or most movies that come out of hollywood have either,

    1. gay people in it
    2. gay themes

    I forgot to mention

Jewish people or jewish themes too.

    Thats nearly all of them.

Why is the US government and all other governments pushing the gay issue so hard?

Is it to distract the people from the more serious issues at hand.

I liked it when they were all in the closet, cause thats where they belong.

No its not cool to be gay, its against nature, and adding a child doesn't does not make it a family no way.

Maybe this is how these big kahunas plan to decrease the population, turn us all into gays FFS.

I wasn't aware the US government and all other governments made movies.

(btw, have you noticed that nearly all those movies also have black people and women people in them too? omg, it's a conspiracy!)

Some pollies don`t even take any notice of the opinions of the National electorate. Repeat in a whining, false bogan voice, "there will be no carbon tax under any Govt I lead".
