Imagine if just one of those trillion $ bailouts had gone to the post office instead of the banksters. Obozo is destroying this country.

    Wrecking America's Postal Service
    By Stephen Lendman
    12-28-11

At a time of open-checkbook military spending, multiple imperial wars, Wall Street bailouts, handouts to other corporate favorites, transferring unprecedented wealth to America's rich, and preserving their tax cuts and other benefits for more, austerity is impoverishing millions, destroying their futures, and wrecking America's Postal Service (USPS).

In early December, USPS announced closure of over half its mail processing centers, 28,000 job cuts, and ending overnight first-class mail delivery.

Beginning in March, cuts will take effect. Standards in place for over 40 years will end. First-class mail will take two or three days, not one. Second class for newspapers and magazines, third class bulk mail, and fourth class will take much longer.

Obama did not destroy the Postal Service...
Anything the government decided to do is destined to failure.
Government does nothing well except pass laws that create criminals and destroy the private sector.

It's all a matter of priorities. Some countries have turned their mail delivery services around by offering services to compete with the private sector. Canada is one of them. I used to hate the service and now find that it is the safest, fastest and most economical.

Tossing 28,000 jobs does not sound like the right way to go to me. I wonder if even the money spent on Solyndra was injected into the postal service what would happen?

But, there are wars to pay four and Hawaiian vacations and so forth.....

A broader view would be advised here. As I posted above, many countries have turned their postal services around despite fat union contracts.

There are some things that government can do when they put their minds to it. Which begs the question where is Owebama's mind?

and yes, he did destroy the post office.....

    No, wait, I forgot IT"S BUSH"S FAULT!

You want services, you have to pay. Its obvious in the electronic age that most people don't give a hill of beans to have the postal service the way it was 40 years ago. The government is under tremdous pressure from conservartives to cut costs; well you got to start somewhere.

Let the United States Postal Service fail. It is clear private sector shipping services have made the government agency obsolete.

Congress doesn't want to do anything right. Every project they address is done as expensively as possible because that way the congressmen get the biggest bribes.

The failure of the post office you refer to, are the DIRECT result of the lame duck republican congress. They are failing because the right wing creeps passed a bill (just before they left office, of course), quietly mandating that the Postal service set aside money for 7-10 years worth of pensions. It was a purposeful ploy to undermine the PS so they can "privatize it". That's the facts.

Google them. If you people are too stupid to look it up, then you deserve to die ignorant when WW3 is started by your party of war mongerers.

The post office should be privatized, it is just getting to expensive to mail a letter. From what I understand there will be another price hike next month. They are losing billions every year. It's either raise prices, cut service, or privatize.

The mandate that requires the USPS to fund 75 years worth of pensions within a 10 year span was enacted in 2006 by a Republican controlled Congress and signed by a Republican President.

    So naturally, it's President Obama's fault...lol

Wow, you guys have gone of the deep end.

The really sad thing, in a "you guys are such idiots" kind of way, is that it will be Republican enclaves - those small towns - that will be affected most. Wait until you have to drive 20 miles to get your mail or the only way to get delivery in your area is an extra $15.00 surcharge for rural addresses.

Ive been trying to tell conservatives this for awhile but they don't listen. They are always against there own self interests.

The funny thing is I don't believe in paying for the post office on a personal level but to think conservatives can't figure out how the post office is beneficial to them is remarkable.

Maybe those who want to privatize postal service should get the book Smoke Signals For Dummies.

Half of the "services" the government supplies should be privatized... the other half should be eliminated.

The postal service has been looted as has every other government program, just like SS.

The money is taken/stolen/embezzled by the best government corporate money can buy and redistributed to the rich/elites that own and control the two party scam.

Postal was always doomed. We'll eventually get to a system of much more expensive smaller shipping (forget sending letters) and one with somewhat okay prices on medium to large objects.

It's like Paper. It'll go extinct. The only thing we should do is make sure prices don't go crazy and let it die a slow painful death to make way for future systems because the current system is too old and incompatible with things like email.

You'll have to get rid of the junk mail before those days will come.

    Sure thing!

That's why USPS is the service that actually delivers the package to you when something is shipped Fedex or Ups.

Private sector shipping companies have more than enough assets to create delivery services. If we do not let the USPS fail, we must privatize it.

The Post Office wasn't doomed. In fact, it was having record years. The only problem is that it can't stay solvent while being forced to fund 75 years worth of pensions in such a short time.

It was a special rule custom made to destroy the Post Office.
