lol. Please don't laugh, but this is what my coworker said today when we were having a chat.
"Obama is the smartest president we ever had". Could this have any TRUTH?????

Who do you think was the smartest president of all time.

I told him that that was highly impossible. Yes that he looks good and talks good...but smartest? NO WAY!

    What do you think?

The Republican Candidates should use a teleprompter. Maybe they wouldn't look like such a bunch of loones.

I found this interesting article on how intellectuals moved away from a country of laws and more toward totalitarianism.

Beginning in the 1860s in America, the Judeo-Christian morality and individualistic responsibility of the founding generations was progressively eroded by the importation of European theories of socialism and the all-powerful national state.

Herbert Croly was the founding editor of The New Republic, the most influential liberal-socialist journal throughout much of the 20th century. His 1909 The Promise of American Life presented the intellectuals’ argument for an all-powerful, collectivized, socialistic government. He declared that Jeffersonian individualism had produced a mediocre American society.

Looking longingly at the scientific and academic excellence achieved under Otto von Bismarck’s German Empire, Croly said that America needed a strong man who would take the bull by the horns, undeterred by the Constitution, and simply impose socialistic collectivism as Bismarck had done when he instituted the world’s first welfare state in 1881.

Croly and his fellow intellectuals, however, seemed unperturbed that Bismarck had bluntly announced that his welfare system was intended to make Germans so dependent upon the Prussian Kaiser’s rule that, as Bismarck put it in the Reichstag, Germans could simply be herded like cattle.

None of the intellectuals foresaw that socialism has an inherent tendency toward totalitarianism. They did not understand that imposing socialist uniformity and forcing everyone downwards to the lowest common level of economic equality necessarily must be at the expense of individuals' natural-law liberties embodied in our original Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Teddy Roosevelt, and later to some extent Woodrow Wilson, were the answers to academic intellectuals’ prayers.

A (*)(*)(*)(*)-the-Constitution activist, Teddy Roosevelt became President after William McKinley’s assassination by social-justice anarchist Leon Czolgosz in 1901. Without pre-approval from Congress, for example, Teddy committed the nation to the cost of building the Panama Canal and started a civil war in Central America to obtain territorial rights. When asked where in the Constitution he found authority for these actions, Roosevelt said that he knew what the situation required and simply did it, whether Congress would concur or not. The Constitution, of course, requires that the Senate advise and consent on treaty matters and reserves to Congress the exclusive right to authorize expenditures of Federal funds.

In the Bismarckian mold, Teddy Roosevelt was a President prepared to take the bull by the horns and overthrow the entrenched ideas of Jeffersonian individuality that stood in the way of intellectuals' conception of social justice and progress.

While he was not a devout believer in the religion of socialism, the effect of Teddy Roosevelt’s terms in office was to promote the liberal-socialist cause. Like all college-educated persons of that era, Roosevelt had been thoroughly exposed to the secular and materialistic doctrine of socialism, first as a Harvard undergraduate, then in public life. In his defense, it may be said that he confronted an America that was fundamentally different in the economic sphere from the America of 1776.

Surprisingly for a man who was well-educated in the classics, Roosevelt was heedless of the need to preserve the traditions of a government of laws, not of men. A clue was one of his favorite books, Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, which advanced the theory that the rise of Christianity was the cause of Rome's fall.

I guess I should have given you guys more detail. My coworker is black and he voted for Obama. I get the feeling that blacks who voted for Obama think he's a really smart person. I guess I can't argue with the guy.

First - I believe he is a terrible POTUS.

    But is definitely not stupid.

The man was head of the Harvard Law Review. You simply cannot have done that and not be highly intelligent (IMO).
Plus, you can tell when he speaks off the cuff that he is very bright at least.

And the fact he uses a TelePrompTer means nothing. He is the Prez - you want him to 'wing it' and risk saying something wrong?

    I don't.

No one can possibly know who the smartest POTUS in history is.

But if you compared the last three Dem prez's and the last three Rep prez's...I guarantee you the former would win the IQ test average.

Having typed that, I hate both parties and I think they all sucked with Bush Sr. sucking the least.

How would we know? His school grades and papers are sealed. Did he write anything as the head of the Harvard Law Review? The world wonders......

He's a smart guy. Not the smartest. Not the most effective. Not the best at his job. But smart.

Most presidents have had some smarts.

As the President of the Harvard Law Review Obama didn't do much writing since his task was to edit all articles including major faculty articles. Also when articles are written in most cases they're attributed not to individual authors but to the policy of the Harvard Law Review itself.

Don't be fooled by the ungodly smear tactics of the CONservatives.

Exactly, this is what I said to my coworker, that we don't have his reportcards..we don't even know if he really went to harvard, no one remembers him. His records are all sealed, we don't know his grades or what he did in High School or anything after. So how is he the smartest president we ever had? cause he's black?

He's definitely up there in intelligence. The guy successfully convinced over half the country to vote for him and the destruction of America. He didn't do that by being stupid!

    Funny stuff.

I haven't studied the lives of all our presidents, but I know that Obama doesn't hold a candle to the intellect of John Quincy Adams. I don't see how anyone could claim Obama is smarter than James Madison and Thomas Jefferson, as well.

Historian Michael Beschloss made a fool of himself on the Don Imus show when he said that Obama has the highest IQ of any president in history.

And Imus asked what is Obama's IQ?

A reasonable question to ask a historian who deals in facts.

Beschloss replied that he didn't know but it was very high.

    How high, Imus askes.

Finally Beschloss was forced to concede that he just pulled that observation out of his ass with no basis of fact to back it up.

But it is liberal morons like Beschloss that other liberals get their information from.

With out his trusty teleprompter, he struggles like a fish out of water. He is smart though. No doubt he knows how to tie his own shoes and go sit by his food dish when he's hungry.

I think Obama has average intelligence.

But the lib media has presented him to the public as a highly intelligent person and that is what his personal credibility depends on.

If the lib media showed Obama as the lazy, self-centered guy who is no smarter than they are the public would drop him like a hot potato because they sure don't like his policies.

I think its hilarious that the ONLY thing that Republicans have to show as "evidence" that they don't think he's smart is that he uses a teleprompter. Big freaking deal. It only shows me that you don't have many if any "ha" moments with him when he showed a lack of intelligence, including press corp interviews and debates against McCain and Hilary 3 years ago. I mean, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Michelle Bachman, Santorum, Newt and Romney open their mouths and its a circus of funny, making Yogi Berry sound like Einstein. The proof with them is that they SHOULD use a prepared teleprompter, even when ordering fast food at a drive through or talking to their spouses (or mistresses) under the covers at night. That way they wouldn't look like complete tools every time they open their mouths.

Obama absolutely DESTROYED McCain in the debates 3 years ago, and then he DESTROYED the entire leadership of Republicans in that healthcare forum with them, and he didn't use a teleprompter for either. For me, giving speeches that HE writes over teleprompter ensures for the history books that the absolute perfect collection of statements gets poetically guaranteed for the ages.

Kennedy's "Ask not" speech was prepared and read verbatim.
Reagan's "Tear down" speech was prepared and read verbatim.
Lincoln's "Gettysburg address" was prepared and read verbatim.

    Were those guys stupid too?
