I can't say I blame them, when they are putting their lives at risk and State governments, like the one in Florida, do nothing but play politics to a point of denying funds to schools.

‘Exhausted and underpaid’: teachers across the US are leaving their jobs in numbers
Unsafe Covid protocols, disrupted schedules and overwork are driving teachers out the schoolhouse door
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/04/teachers-quitting-jobs-covid-record-numbers
In Florida, teacher vacancies this year increased by more than 67% compared with August 2020, and a 38.7% increase from August 2019.

Amanda Tower, an elementary school teacher in Collier county, Florida, resigned from her position before the 2021-2022 school year, which would have been the start of her 12th year of teaching.

She said her school district stopped consistently applying Covid-19 safety protocols, the classrooms were tightly packed and poorly ventilated, students were not required to mask and often came into class while sick, and teachers were receiving significant pushback from science deniers. She said changes in curriculum, training, and new mandated procedures with poor communication or direction from administration were further reasons that prompted her resignation.

How many of them are due to refusing the vaccine mandate?

They should all be fired anyway and COVID has nothing to do with it.

America's system of public dis-education is a joke.

In the 50's and 60's teachers were pretty much all straight women, all relatively low paid (I have no idea the reason for that but they still did a 100X better job than today) and American students were the best on Earth.

Today - well, because this is clearly a progressive liberal forum we're not allowed to speak freely so I will leave it to your imaginations.

from the same article, how about a little something addressing Democrat areas????

"Nearly 10% of teachers in Providence, Rhode Island, either quit or retired early from the city’s school district before the school year began. Public schools in Michigan saw a 44% increase in midyear teacher retirements this past school year over the 2019-2020 school year. In Fort Worth, Texas, the school district had 314 vacant teacher jobs at the beginning of this school year, compared with 71 at the 2019-2020 school year, before the pandemic."

Given the union stranglehold and Democrat indoctrination of teachers, i've no clue why anyone would want to teach. Parents with common-sense are pushing back against the Democrat agenda within academia thus making it confrontational as teachers and administration try and indoctrinate, and parents are pushing back.

Imagine not realizing that the agenda you push upon students is wrong, and thinking that you are doing good, just to have common-sense parents rebuke it.

Of course you'll become disenfranchised about teaching. Sadly, many teachers don't even realize that they themselves are victims of having the Democrat agenda pounded into their heads.

Does "exhausted and underpaid" sound like its about refusing vaccines? The resignations started before the vaccines were available, so I doubt it is many. Six unvaccinated teachers died of Covid in Florida, so I am sure the rest realize they are in mortal danger in schools where they are not allowed to ask kids to wear masks. All in all, teachers are among the most vaccinated groups of people in US for the obvious reasons.

Fort Worth, TX is not a Democratic area.

In Florida, teacher vacancies this year increased by more than 67%. Seems obvious its a nation wide issue.

Why does everything boil down to "Democrat, Democrat, Democrat, Democrat,....." for you.

    Talk about being obsessed.

hmmm, teachers tend to be Democrat voters due to indoctrination within academia. That was simple, any other pointless questions?

Vouchers are the only solution to left wing kleptocrats and dem activists stealing all the public education funds...

The people whining about education funding are mostly $200k per year dem activist do nothings listed as "senior education advisor" and the like...

The first solution to public education is to purge all homosexuals from it. Public education does not teach our kids, it rapes them...

Liberal European countries teach children much better. The problem is right wing Americans who do research of fakebook. Think they know it all better than experts. Flat earth. Creationism. etc.

Exhausted and underpaid’: teachers across the US are leaving their jobs in numbers

I taught in a high school for a year right after college. Then I was drafted. When I finished my tour I went to work for a large corporation at twice the salary I had as a first year teacher. This is the perfect time for teachers to launch a new career. The marxists are doing a great job undermining the American way of life. I don't think even the left will enjoy the replacement. We are destroying in double time what took a couple of centuries to build.

Any particular reason why Republicans focus on whining about education, as opposed to teaching themselves? Is it because whining is so much easier?

And its not just teaching, - look at US cities. They generate 85% of US economic output, and practically all are ran by Democrats, and Republicans can't stop whining about the "evil blue cities".

Of course its easier to cry and whine about everything than to actually do something about.

Most of my political preferences lean conservative, but the WHINING Republicans are a national embarrassment.

OK. Well, make your voice heard and make you desires about purging homosexuals known. How else can you get it done? Purging people IS a Republican "solution".

The quality of the students coming in has fallen mostly because of drugs, smart phones/tablets, parents not fluent in english, and dysfunctional homes.

It wouldn't be the first time an article attempted to obfuscate an essential workforce shortage by pretending the vaccine mandate wasn't resulting in a lot of people getting fired by making up reasons why 'oh they must have quit'.

Then explain how vaccine mandate caused people to get fired BEFORE such mandate was put in place (and which is still not in effect). Also, the argument here is that practically all teachers are liberal, so why would they suddenly quit because they think there will be a vaccine mandate (liberals are getting vaccinated).

Yeah, I can see where working 8:00 AM- 3:30PM and having every paid holiday off would drain most people.

    Not.

She's lame, and in typical Liberal fashion, blames everyone else while refusing to take responsibility for her own short-comings.

Liberals will now accuse me of blaming the "victim."

If there is a massive shortage of teachers, I thikn it is believable that the ones who remain will carry the whole load, which results in overwork.

What short-comings? She just gave the reasons why she quit.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if that happens.

Then why are we paying to educate tree stumps? Just to keep teacher's employed?

As a country we decided that all children would get an education. Some sticks, some doesn’t. Many kids in big cities are feral.

That poster is on every thread complaining about having a post deleted, and now he thinks he can't speak about education.

I have family members who are teachers. They are overworked and underpaid. The online teaching has brought massive challenges. Not every teacher is a far left liberal.

However, one can see the writing on the wall with public school education. The quality of the public schools is continuing to deteriorate decade to decade. I blame part of this on the amount of funding directed for school administration personnel. Good quality teachers are needed, not more support staff and you need to pay accordingly. I blame part of this on the elected school boards who try to implement whatever personal agenda they hold-whether Right or Left. I blame the teacher unions who will not allow a truly inept teacher to be fired, they just pass this teacher from school to school. I blame the dumbing down of the curriculum.

This will not end well for the US in the long run.
