California average gas prices are the highest ever recorded, both at the state and federal level.

I'm going to gas up later today, at a gas station with Biden "Idid that" stickers on the pumps.

This idea that Biden controls the price of gas is JUST PLAIN STUPID.

Prices are up today for a number of reasons, but a big one is that corporations made massive decisions concerning how to survive COVID. They shut down production, they stopped drilling for oil (which is set by WORLD PRICE by the way.) They stopped putting in orders for the goods they were no longer going to be making in the same volume.

Then, one has to remember that the FED and the federal and state governments have been supplying money through incredibly low interest rates (FED, not the president, obviously) and through aid to those who lost jobs due to COVID.

The result is a lot of money and not much product - which causes prices to go up.

As these exceptional sources of money tighten and as corporations start making decisions like they do under normal conditions, things will change.

 

Absolutely agree. Joking aside, recent price fluctuations have had exceedingly little to do with government policies. It is ultimately a free market doing what a free market does, no matter who happens to be in the Oval.

It looks like repairs of damage caused by Hurricane Ida in the Gulf have much more to do with gas supply and pricing right now. There is one other factor to mention, though, and that is OPEC+. From my CNN link above:

The IEA said it expected output to increase in the next two months despite the OPEC+ group of oil producing countries declining appeals from US President Joe Biden to ramp up production beyond a planned monthly increment of 400,000 barrels per day.​

They chose to leave production alone as prices climbed, so the recent increase is mostly on them. But at least we seem to be able to make up the difference now that hurricane damage is being repaired.

 

Biden lied, cheap gas died.
