So what? For every one of these isolated incidents 20 more children are murdered like the poor girl in KY.

    My thoughts exactly!

And what gets me is that the "proof" is a you tube - the only reports online at the moment are "sodahead" and blatantly conservative sites who are quoting the you tube

I'll bet more people use guns to defend themselves than are killed in mass shootings. Want to make that bet?

    1¢?

I'll admit you have a reason for believing what you do.

An administration with it's own propaganda arm which wants all of us to be docile and unable to resist their dictates have made it seem as though we must ban guns.

    Don't believe me though.

    Check it for yourself.

It will be tough to do however, because when a gun is used to PREVENT crimes those incidents aren't always reported to the police.

I think we all agree that irresponsible, negligent parenting resulting in the death of a child is criminal and sad... whether they leave a babies car seat on the roof, or a firearm with ammunition in the hands of a child unsupervised.

They aren't isolated. We've been posting them almost daily at PF and the progressives have a case of the sore butt.

    Hmmmm - misleading much??

If we are looking at self-defence versus total firearm injury - then you lose

However you have cleverly added a caveat - "mass shootings" without defining what that means

But let us look at some statistics more germane to the topic

    http://www.childrensdefense.org/chi...tions/data/protect-children-not-guns-2012.pdf

So we have ONE purported case of a teen defending themselves against - nearly 3,000 dead

Yep THAT is a good ratio - not!

    - - - Updated - - -

And it is still anecdotal evidence - give us statistics - how many self defence uses are recorded versus how many firearm injuries?

    * Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year -- or about 6,850 times a day. 1 This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives. 2

    * Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker.3

    * As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.4

    * Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense. According to the Clinton Justice Department, there are as many as 1.5 million cases of self-defense every year. The National Institute of Justice published this figure in 1997 as part of "Guns in America" -- a study which was authored by noted anti-gun criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig.5

    * Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606).6 And readers of Newsweek learned that "only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The 'error rate' for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high."7

    * Handguns are the weapon of choice for self-defense. Citizens use handguns to protect themselves over 1.9 million times a year.8 Many of these self-defense handguns could be labeled as "Saturday Night Specials."

No without evidence you are simply lying.... good for you I am sorry you have to lie to make your point. Perhaps that should tell you something.

Now be honest, if you got your background checks, would that be it? No more gun control necessary? I might even agree if liberals promised a moratorium on all gun control measures for the span of 50 years, along with that a promise to resign the very moment any was introduced...

Short of that, we already know too many liberals are lying scumbags and will start the next anti-gun crusade before the ink is dry on background check legislation...

No, it's a matter of knowing when someone is lying to you or not. Maybe that's why you defend him so. He still has you and less than half (and that number is steadily shrinking as more get wise to him) of America fooled.

So, I'll look for evidence to show you what you've been wanting to deny for four + years.

:roflol:Knew someone would trot out these old debunked stats!!:roflol:

AND you got it from "Gun owners" Biased much!!!

Two seconds thought - Two seconds would show why this is clap trap and it is in the very first sentence - what is your overall crime rate in the USA?

According to "Nationmaster" http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_cri-crime-total-crimes (and I am not that fond of that site) your total crime is around 11- 12 million - now that is total crime which would include DUI and fraud - not something that usually requires a gun to be pulled.
So if we believe these stats though roughly 1/4 of ALL crime in the USA someone has someone pulling a gun to defend themselves - does that make ANY kind of sense?

But don't believe me - here is a LIST of research articles that have examined that data and called "bull dust"

    http://www.vpc.org/studies/wher2pro.htm

    and then there is this

In a 1992 survey, Gary Kleck, a Florida State University criminologist, found that there are 2.5 million defensive gun uses (DGU's) per year by “law-abiding” citizens in the United States. Another study from the same period, the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), estimated 65,000 DGUs annually. The NCVS survey differed from Kleck’s study in that it only interviewed those who reported a threatened, attempted, or completed victimization for one of six crimes: rape, robbery, assault, burglary, non-business larceny, and motor vehicle theft. That accounts for the discrepancy in the two results. A National Research Council report said that Kleck's estimates appeared to be exaggerated and that it was almost certain that "some of what respondents designate[d] as their own self-defense would be construed as aggression by others" (Understanding and Preventing Violence, 266, Albert J. Reiss, Jr. & Jeffrey A. Roth, eds., 1992).

The 2.5 million figure would lead us to conclude that, in a serious crime, the victim is three to four times more likely than the offender to have and use a gun. Although the criminal determines when and where a crime occurs, although pro-gun advocates claim that criminals can always get guns, although few potential victims carry guns away from home, the criminal, according to Kleck’s survey, is usually outgunned by the individual he is trying to assault, burglarize, rob or rape.

    http://vacps.org/public-policy/the-contradictions-of-kleck

You would be better off quoting the less outrageous number
