    Point A: a senseless tragedy, and I can only shake my head at it.

    Point B: the gleefully soulless, petulant ranting of the left wing gun haters utterly disgusts me.

    When I was a child, beginning at the age of 4, my grandfather - a police officer with 40 years on the job - taught me how to respect firearms and coexist with them safely. He taught me proper firearms safety, and he also taught me self-discipline and that there were consequences to my actions.

    When I was 11 I certainly had my fair share of confrontations with my elders about the cleanliness of my room; to which I responded with respectful deference and went to rectify the problem. The thought of turning a gun on my loved ones was never conceived, much less entertained.

    What happened was senseless, and shows a far deeper problem than any failure to keep the family's gun locked up.

    As did I, but troubled children may be considered an exception for some. Imagine how this child was raised when something as simple as cleaning his room resulted in a complete meltdown. I wonder if the grandparents knew what they were getting into?

    I am certain that there are responsible, emotionally balanced gun owners who keep their guns secure from access by children, and also teach their children to behave responsibly around guns. If all gun owners were like that, and if it were virtually impossible for criminals to acquire guns, there would be no need for any gun control laws at all. However, that's not the world we live in. That is the reality that I would like gun enthusiasts and self-described "2nd amendment defenders" to accept.
