19 year old put on sex offender registry for having sex with underage girl

Zach Anderson was 19 years old when he met a girl on a dating site. She told him she was 17. Turned out she was actually only 14.

As a result he had to register as a sex offender of life, with all sorts of restrictions on where he is allowed to live. His parents had to buy him a new place to live since the law no longer allowed him to live at their house.

Despite the girl saying she didn't believe he should be punished, and the girl's mother saying she did not want him to be registered as a sex offender, the judge had this to say:

"You went online, to use a fisherman's expression, trolling for women, to meet and have sex with. That seems to be part of our culture now. Meet, hookup, have sex, sayonara. Totally inappropriate behavior."​

The judge sent him to county jail for 90 days and ordered that he not be allowed to use a computer for several years. This will have all sorts of implications for the rest of his life.

One more example of people getting put on the sex offender registry who should not be on it, with all the lifetime restrictions that automatically come along with that.

I think this is just ridiculous.
Even if you believe there should be some punishment, being put on the sex offender list is definitely not appropriate here, especially since that means being subject to a lifetime of legal restrictions affecting where he can live and where he can go.

But I don't care if the guy is a teen; he better check the girl's ID.

 

Just hypothetically, what would you say if the girl had a fake ID?
(or if the guy claimed he did check her ID and it said she was 18, but it turned out she wasn't)

Stay away from women online and offline. This guy did not do his due diligence. While I'm not of the opinion with the little presented that he is a child predator, technically or by legal definition, he is.

The judge was wrong, in my opinion to make it sound like because the kid is promiscuous, he should pay for it. That's no illegal, but may be immoral and/or sinful to some. That's a different arena.

It most assuredly is a different world today, though the sex drive of humans has not caught up with the law. There is the dilemma in this instance, with even the mother being okay with it. Liberation has superseded the law.

In a sense, it's like asking, how do you reign in liberated young women without making them take responsibility? You make the man pay for his natural weaknesses, because it's obvious what happens if he doesn't. It's also obvious it is his responsibility to reign himself in under all circumstances with women of any age.

He deserves to be punished under the laws of today. He may even be, a child predator. If he is, the decision is correct. Is it best to fall on the side of prudence in justice?

That last sentence could be used in political threads about immigrants or with the FISA issues and on and on. Good luck. It's a two-faced unfair world and it's men who need to be the most careful in this era. It's quite clear.

 

When I was growing up there was a 13 year old slut on my street who everyone knew was hooking up with 15-17yo+ guys.
Actually she was already quite slutty at 11, wearing midriff exposing clothing, shorts that were shorter than hot pants and listening to Christina Aguilera & Britney Spears (for those that don't remember those songs were basically pornography in audio format) but I don't think she was sexually active then.
These girls are out there.

 

There are sufficient examples in the newspapers. It's the responsibility of person who is older to determine who is jailbait and who isn't.

The DA here and the juries have no mercy for this. If the young victim was 15 years 364 days old at the occurrence, the perp is going to jail.

In the cases you know about, but what about those which are not turned in? Do you believe all cases like the op are reported?

 

Chester, since you are in the know, you can show some examples. Oh, you can't. Here's your tinfoil hat.

 

You'd have to be extremely naïve to think that every single case like this is reported. Does anyone know who turned them in? The girl and her mother are okay with it. Was it her father? Was it a former boyfriend or his parents? Was it someone on the dating site who knew she was younger than she claimed in her profile? There is much that is missing from this story.

Of course, he is guilty under the law. I'm not debating that. He was sentenced as the law sanctions. This is important when considering the possibilities and ramifications of letting a predator free.

It is as correct, as yours. It's simply a different perspective. It's tough for most folks to see a different side of things. Combine the two, and you have more truth than without one. That is the issue here. Isn't it?

 

I'd say the kid lives in a society where 95% of the citizenry facing legal prosecution never gets a jury trial. He'd better be wealthy. We have corporate for profit prisons now with convict labor leasing, so if he goes in, at least they have a jobs program which awaits more and more of us as the Wall Street/donor/"job creator" class economically cannibalizes society.

 

Yabbut, no it is not. Women teachers do not get off because of their sex in Utah. To suggest otherwise when you don't have evidence is nothing but an opinion based on nothing.

 

That definitely does not seem to be in the spirit of the law. Goes to show that laws can be poorly written and implemented. Also, that judge sounds like a pr*ck.

 

How many teens check ID of their dates? I think its pretty harsh punishment.

Am I the only one who thinks that guy looks about 15 or 16. When I was that age 19 yr old guys looked much cooler. lol
