31 national emergencies that have been in effect for years

    A lot of national emergencies dealing with drugs and cartels from the Southern Border.

    I have no problem with a president calling a national emergency. But if he truly believes there IS a national emergency, why is he not calling it?

    Trump talked about 'the national emergency' and that he could declare it - that he had the right to do so. The reason he isn't, he says, is because he wants Congress to do their jobs.

    My point is that if there IS a national emergency, it should be called. Not wait for Congress, not wait for further negotiations.

    I get your point, but he's the president and can make the call when he wants to.

    Fair enough. But I would like to think that a president would call a national emergency if it existed, rather than weigh out the political pros and cons...
