I'm a naturalized Canadian as I acquired a second citizenship in 1974. I live part of the year in Canada and travel the world, spending more time outside the U.S. than in it.

    He failed reelection.
    Why?
Because he was detached from real people.
Exemplified not know the cost of a gallon of milk.
Maybe not fair, but well portrayed.

Former President George W. Bush breaks down memorializing his father as a scowling Donald Trump looks on

    https://www.rawstory.com/2018/12/fo...rializing-father-scowling-donald-trump-looks/

One of the best quotes from this event: (not a direct quote).

"Hate erodes the container it lives in "

How sad that Trump can't even must a neutral expression ......but uses his fall back rage fulled, sulking facial expression. Is he trying to draw attention to himself .......even at this sad and poignant event. the event calls for a modicum of dignity........But then iti s probably just his nature...

Republicans who voted for Perot put Slick Wllie in the White House. In turn, we ended up with Bush the Younger, someone who probably never would have been elected.

Not to me. All I saw were shortages and fear.

I paraphrase, have you been to the USSR? Or at least in Russia?

No, my comments about the USSR came from similar sources to yours about Detroit.

Your comment is demagoguery. I point out the fact that Detroit, once the flagship of American industry, is currently a bankrupt city whose debts are constantly growing. And by this very Detroit is a symbol of the US economy.

You are incorrect. Detroit suffered from decades of incompetent management. It is not a symbol of the U.S. economy. In fact it is unique among larger U.S. cities. By the way, the suburbs around Detroit are wealthy and beautiful. It is only the city itself that has failed.

Very accurate note. That is why I say that Detroit symbolizes the American economy. The same management was in the White House.
And even the rich suburbs of Detroit, also show on the American economy. Because in the USA there are also rich areas. And this is not surprising. Even during the Great Depression there were rich areas.

Mine, too. All volunteers... my father (Marine), his brother (retired Maj. Gen. USA), my mother's brother (retired Col. USAF), my father-in-law (retired Col. USAF). I couldn't be more impressed by each of these men, now all gone. RIP.

My great-grandfather died fighting in France during WWI, near the Somme but not at the Battle. Heck of a place to go.

It's easy to look back now. Fighting in the trenches, those lads would have thought the endtimes were upon them, the world had turned to hell - severed limbs and decapitated torsos litter a scene of putrid mud, the stench of death, it was the end of history.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
    Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

Heroes and saviors, not victims. They answered the call when they found themselves in a tough spot.
