Jack, you indicated you live in the Antelope Valley. You remember the damage the '94 quake did to the overpasses down in Santa Clarita? A lot of supplies coming up here came thru that, and the population has grown quite a bit since then. I think you might be downplaying some of the raucous activity that might occur were a bigger quake to hit and supplies were cut off. I noted earlier water was flying off the shelves at Wal-Mart, and practically nothing happened - this time.

We actually get a quake closer to LA, with its 1930's plumbing and LA will love you back.

Maybe bring up your story on the Pacoima Ralphs circa 50 years ago.

That's OK but I wouldn't sleep in the house for a few days if I was in California. All those aftershocks - nerve wrecking. Because you don't know - is it going to be a big one, would the house hold?
Sleeping in a tent or under the Democratic Blue sky for a few days won't hurt. ;)

I am not worried at all. I enjoy a good aftershock.

If you are in San Francisco or L.A. it's best to remain inside than going outside during and after a quake.

Feces, hypodermic needles, rats, typhus, typhoid fever and other medieval diseases now found in cities run by Democrats

Then there are the homeless you have to compete with to find a safe place.

The millennials have already gobbled up all of the best safe places.

Texas Cowboys turn tail and run after a good quake..I’ve seen it. Earthquakes have a way of putting things in perspective. If you are wise,, you learn how to ride with it...

The presumption was that one owns a house with a back yard.
Otherwise, yes, I would NOT put up a tent on the sidewalk along with beggars and junkies.
I know what is to live within a seismic zone.

There are Democrats in the state legislature in Sacramento who want to outlaw backyards, front lawns and driveways in California.

Pretty basically they want everyone except for the white liberal elitist to live in cubicles in a 20 story housing projects.
No personal cars just bikes or public transportation and a state with no plastic straws.

Some people just react differently to risk taking and natural disaster events. I’ve talked to people from the West Coast who won’t move to the Midwest because of tornadoes. Some people think about the risks and some enjoy the experience. You sound like the latter. I don’t think it has anything to do with political leanings.

I missed the biggest earthquake here because I was in a combine harvesting wheat. Didn’t feel a thing. Still disappointed.

Have you ever experienced a real desert flash flood? They are interesting.

Yes, Democrats pass out the needles, feces, rat’s and typhus in their secret meetings while their top scientists from Democrat central command are hard at work producing midieval diseases to spread. That is their evil plan....Lol.....Or, possibly, some people who are pissed off because Republicans here have alienated most of the voters have begun to come completely unraveled and are hallucinating and turning into paranoid schizophrenics.

Yeh I’ve always stayed dry. It’s the sound for me. Used to wake me up as a kid. Could hear it coming from a mile away. Plenty of time to get dressed and go watch for that wall of water.

If there aren’t dishes to clatter etc. is there much sound with a major earthquake?

Unless it opens a sinkhole or fissure or causes a mudslide/landslide, or a gas explosion or leak (depends on where you are obviously.) or a tree to fall etc. Much safer than an urban area for sure

It's no secret that Ken Kesey and his "Merry Pranksters" intended to spike the San Francisco drinking water reservoirs with LSD.

May explain "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi, Gavin Newsom and the California Democratic party.

No joke! SCAG’s new leader was a Soviet planner

This is too good to be true. I have a habit of comparing myriad local and state planners to Soviet planners, given that their ideas seem so similar at times. Recently, I wrote a column about the planners at SCAG, the appropriately named Southern California Association of Governments. I say appropriately, because a dictionary definition of scag is heroin, and these folks are addicted to central planning and tax dollars.

Well, the new head of SCAG, replacing Mark Pisano, is Hasan Ikharata. Check out this from his bio: “Hasan also worked abroad for the Government of USSR, Moscow Metro Corporation, where he conducted subway ridership forecasting, engineering design and analysis of TDM programs for the Moscow Subway system. Hasan holds a bachelor’s degree from Moscow University in the former Soviet Union and master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban Planning from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.”

At least now it will be easier to refer to the “Soviet planner” in charge of Southern California’s premiere planning agency!

LOOTERS target businesses battered by back-to-back 6.4 and 7.1 magnitude earthquakes - the biggest in 20 years - that rocked California as ground shakes with an aftershock every minute while geologists warn another huge tremor is coming NEXT WEEK

Yes, I understand the ability to sway is more important than being built like a tank. I used the wrong comparison.

The number one pastime in Ridgecrest is hunting and shooting things.

I bet shooting looters would be really fun.

3 ranges out there at least, plus BLM land.

Eastern California is a bit different from the west.

Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart and Billy Kreutzman, The Dead and Company are still packing stadiums too. The pranksters had a positive effect on the world in my opinion. However I don’t think that Brown, Pelosi or Newsome hung out with those guys. They were a result of a CIA experiment that Ken Kesey volunteered for back in ‘61.

You need to get back to the beach and ride some waves again Apache. You seem to be a little wound up about all this Demikin vs Republicrat stuff. Trestles, The Wedge, Malibu, Secas, County Line, Hobson’s, Rincon, The Ranch, Steamers Lane....They are all still there, good as ever. Screw politics, ride the wild surf!!!
