The other day our Prime Minister says they have made the test for citizenship, more Australian.

    What is more Australian?

    This to me is Australia.

What he means is that the paper the test is written on will be made from wood from trees grown in Australia. Either that or it will be an updated version of the dictation test.

Wow, I'd forgotten about this song! Now this is our new National anthem, it encapsulates basically who we are to a tee!

And never forget that this country was built on a collective effort by a many people from many shores. It certainly wouldn't be the prosperous country it is today without this broad contribution!

I had to look up the lyrics and they made the song even more beautiful. Congratulations from Texas, mates.:flagus:

A more stringent English test will be a part of new citizenship laws. Probably a listening test would sound like this video to confuse these test takers from Asia. British English is too easy compared to comprehending this accent.

We are becoming more and more nationalists, that is what it means.
Love the two videos, music powerful, the other one real life....

Maybe it could be an accent and Aussie slang test! See if you tell us the meanings of the following....no cheating! We'll make you an honorary Aussie!

    Cobber

    Fair dinkum

    Thongs

    Dogs eye and dead horse

    Pat Malone

    Ciggy

    Slab

    Swag

    Stubbie

    Tucker

    Bloody oath

Throw a snag on the barbie

    Ya reckon

    Hard yakka

Give it a go ya mug and see how ya go mate!

You grow up with these terms and never ever connect it with Aussie identity. Unfortunately some of it is slowly phasing out as we become more pressured to speak proper English!

I defy anyone to come up with a test that would be in Australia's interest for migrants to pass which would also mostly not be relevant in the UK.
    Language test? - Same
    Laws - Same
Standard of behaviour - Very similar.

What other subjects would be relevant?

Basically it means anyone who can manage those rotten key changes in "Advance Australia Fair" without straining something vital and more importantly

Anyone able to who the Hell "Gert" is........

    Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil
    Our home is
    girt by sea
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
    Of beauty rich and rare
In history's page, let every stage
    Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
    Advance Australia

    :p :p :p

    The National Anthem. Beautiful song!

    I never knew that before.

I knew about prawns vs shrimps on the Barbee though.

(Only Yanks calls them shrimps, Mate!)

I have to admit it is soooooo much better than the New Zealand national anthem!! Sorry Kiwis but your anthem is a Dirge!! One of the more entertaining sights is watching the All Blacks suffering through the anthem until they can do the Hakka!

At least three look like they can't remember the words!

The c-word will be featured in every multiple answer question to ensure the Americans have been normalised since they're the only ones who think it's terribly offensive.

The Marseillaise is a good rousing song. (Especially in Casablanca).

For me unfortunately Le Marseillaise just reminds me of the Beatles:

Yep, litter duty if you didn't face the flag with your hand on your heart, or possibly the cane! Probably why a monarchy is an aversion to some like me. : )

An Aussie haka is an interesting idea, but the lyrics?
