The older I get the less respect I have for women and their "choices." Abortion is perhaps the most difficult decision any person might make, but divorce in many cases [especially where young children are involved] seems to be more of a lifestyle option. These are the BIG 2 choices that many women make in their lives and ones that create tremendous heartache for everybody touched by these difficult decisions. And it appears as if women are encouraged to take what is considered by many to be the "easy way out" [but of course it never is] and act in their own interests [because, after all, this is what having power is all about]. Using power effectively is the antithesis of narcissistic behavior. It is doing what is in the best interests of the greatest number of people [especially if the nurturing of young children is at risk]. If you are attempting to make yourself happy by harming others, not only will they suffer, but you will suffer, as well. Women were always looked up to by society because most bore their burden with dignity and grace. EVERYBODY appreciated the sacrifices women made [for her family] and she was loved by all to that end. I believe that modern women have been sold a bill of goods that they can have it all by simply putting themselves first...in career, in their relationship with their spouse, and with their children. Women are going to learn the hard way [what men have ALWAYS understood] that you can't have it all. As a matter of fact, you're lucky if you can have a good chunk of it. Life is a bitch for everybody, but especially if it is your self who is most important to you.
You think? Literally tens of millions of children have been growing up in the West [since the explosion of divorce in the 60's] without a father at home because women want it all...great career, fulfilling personal life, and maximum happiness. Of course, very few get much of it at all, but in their attempts, they destroy the best chance their kids have to succeed in the world. This collective narcissism needs to end as society needs to re-learn that adulthood is NOT an extension of childhood, instead, it needs to once again be a intensive period of growth and sacrifice for something more important then your "self"...your children. How bad does it have to get? Isn't allowing an entire generation to turn into a cult of cell phone zombies enough of a wake-up call?
Over 80% of all divorces in the US are initiated by women. This is not to let men off the hook for their own issues, but women have not used their newly garnered political and economic power wisely.
We live in a world where you have to have reasonable expectations. Yes, parents have been doing an awful job of raising their kids for the past two generations, but there is only so much the average parent can do in the face of enormous social pressures. Society must take a stand against such things. Kids need to be dis-empowered. Schools need to be about teaching fundamentals and parents need to hold their kids responsible for their behavior. This will probably take a generation or two to correct.
It would be helpful to understand the 'why' in your statistic. I don't think anyone goes into a divorce willy nilly - men nor women. So do you also have a breakdown of the stated cause for the request for divorce?
So only women get divorces? Or is it only women want to get divorces? Are men just sitting on the sideline at the whims of women?
Women actually believe that THEIR happiness is the most important thing in the Universe. The virtue of sacrifice has been eliminated from women's vocabulary by Madison Avenue who has brainwashed [from birth] them to believe that nirvana can be had with a side order of [fill in the blank] to go with their banquet table full of all the other non-sense that makes people [what they are today...completely unsatisfied]. Women are just incredibly miserable.
I seen you post that earlier. I think another asked for your proof of that claim. I haven't seen your proof. For now, It is likely a made up statistic.
I don't mean to take this thread off topic, and mostly think the original post is a great post, but maybe it would be insightful to take a look at the causes of divorce? 50% of divorces are caused by infidelity on the part of the man, most often because the wife is either not putting out, or has grown very overweight.
yea, if a woman finds out her husband is cheating and files for divorce, or if a woman is being abused and files for divorce, it would count as the woman initiating it. Why are you assuming that the person who initiates the divorce is the one responsible for it? You clearly have a problem with women.

I'm saying that there isn't any reason to place the blame for the divorce on the person who initiates it unless you just have something against women and want to use that stat to rationalize your misogyny.
