With all this Coronavirus circus going on and many people acting very illogical I decided to go grab some ammo last Saturday (I had just a few bullets left).
To my surprise, the store had no ammo for handguns left and I noticed that more than half of handguns were sold out.
I have a 9mm gun and this is the first time I regretted having a gun with very popular caliber. Normally, in my area 50 rounds cost about $13.
My dad is a big gun enthusiast and he was taken by surprise with sudden shortages too, but he did spare me 1 box. I also managed to find some ammo online (the price was triple the normal price, but at least they really did have the ammo in stock). One box that normally cost $13 set me back $60 with delivery. Now I have over 100 rounds.
I’m not afraid of Coronavirus. I believe we will all eventually have it (or already had it). But in my life I observed numerous times how normal society descended into chaos in a very short period of time and am afraid of a possibility of a moment when there is not enough cops to protect everyone.
Now that I have more than 100 I feel better. But with shortages during this crisis I think I’ll make it a rule - after this is over I’ll always have a stock of at least 300-500 rounds in my house at all times.
Did anyone here have difficulties acquiring firearms or ammo during this crisis?

Also, can anyone point me to a good inexpensive shotgun? I might buy it too after this is over.

The coronavirus itself is problematic, but it would end to disappear. However the economic crisis behind is clearly a huge thing. We will need time to know what would be the exact consequences, but it seems clearly that things will change drastically after the coronavirus.

Could societies fall in chaos ? I suppose it's a possibility, but not a fate.

In my area, ammunition has been hard to find. The large box stores are basically out. Walmart no longer sells handgun ammo in stores, so the sporting goods stores like Academy and Dicks are basically out. Bass Pro is also similarly out. I found 9mm and .45 ACP at gun ranges though. They have limits on how much you can buy at a time now. I don't blame them.

Best shotgun for little money is Remington 870 pump 12 ga. Should cost under $350.

My town is completely cleaned out of all common calibers (5.56, 7.62, 9mm, etc). Local gun shop said they are back ordered for at least 90 days as of last week. The folks around here are simply stockpiling, we're one of the top 3 most heavily armed counties in general and there weren't a whole lot of first time gun buyers buying up all the ammo.

Oh well, I have plenty of ammo anyway.

I haven’t been out to the local gun stores to see. I’ve got close to 10,000 rounds of assorted small arms ammo from 22lr, 9mm, 45acp and 5.56. I’m not too worried.

I was a purchasing manager for a large gun store/range in Ohio back in 2013-2014 when there was a mad rush after sandy hook. Was a crazy time. I had to beg borrow and steal from our suppliers in order to keep ammo in stock. Luckily we were an indoor range which gave us priority over smaller shops so we weren’t completely out of handgun ammo or 5.56. We were completely out of 22 lr for close to 9 months.
