For everybody who's eating this Petito/Laundrie thing up, you may enjoy a show on Discovery called "Alaskan Bush People". It's perfect for Americans to use to fill the uncomplicated, empty landscape of their minds....

[IMG]. It'll get your mind off of what a crap-pile this country has turned into in 2021....

Its up to the cops whether charges are pressed, particularly in abuse cases.

Just because someone calls the cops does not mean someone needs to go to jail. That's not how that works at all.

It seems to be that way in this case. The woman might still be alive if someone had gone to jail.

Nah. I don't think they could have held him long enough to make a difference. Police don't have the power to break up relationships that sometimes really need to be broken up.

In a lot of cases sending someone to jail makes the problem worse not better. The Petito case, if her fiance is indeed the perpetrator of the murder and if indeed it was a murder and not a suicide or accidental death (given that they haven't released a COD ) is an outlier, not the norm.

Another case with complaints about not getting as much publicity as Gabby and Brian:

But we don't have him, and the woman is dead.

This just strikes me as fairly obviously a case where some sort of intervention was being loudly called for and didn't happen.

Given that he'd been with the woman for some years it doesn't seem as if he was just waiting to kill her. OTOH he WAS being violent enough with her that it attracted public notice. This might indicate he was running out of patience AND/OR that she was in a particularly pronounced episode of the disorder. The shame there is that what she had is, to my knowledge, a somewhat easily treatable thing. If she had just been given a pill and kept away from him for a little while, IN A SUPERVISED SETTING, the whole thing might have worked out OK

Maybe this is one of those cases where cops need to be mental health workers. I dunno, it's just about the most tragic thing I've heard of in some time.

    he came home without her

10 days later her parents finally get concerned
    His parents were not concerned?

21 and 22 year olds today are more like 15 year olds from the prior generation. Sure, they can play video games and facetime but the parents should have suspected something and much sooner too....all of the parents. She seemed way too immature.

If mom and dad are involved, this triples the pain and damage to justice.
The son is no help. And reports say the parents are not either.

I think the bigger power play is still to announce charges if they were relevant, and basically force the son into complying for the sake of his parents future and freedom.

What a SOAP-OPERA! Meanwhile, 'they' keep your attention distracted away from the important threats that are ruining this country....

For human beings with a bit of empathy this case is no trivia.
The fact that there is also misery elsewhere does not mean than we all should be forbidden to care for the couple in this case.

You are free to open threads about other sad cases.

You may come down from your "moral high ground".

It's a sad tragedy when any person is killed. How often are people killed in this country? What is so unbelievably special about this particular killing that it makes big-time, nationwide 'news splash' for over three weeks...?! Fact: at least 19,000 people are estimated to have been killed in the United States in 2020, in shootings alone. How much TV network 'air-time' did the vast majority of THEM get...?

Hint: if they keep the national attention (such as it is....) riveted on stuff like this Petito/Laundrie drama, there's less attention focused on the laughably disastrous situation going on right now with this country's government and its so-called "leadership"....

What I don't understand, and what makes so little sense to me, is why, of all networks, FOX NEWS, would be bouncing this story, day after day. You'd expect all the hyperliberal networks to want to keep the public 'eye' off of the Insane Clown Posse that is the Biden regime, but... FOX...? :confusion:
