You think there is no such thing as mental illness? Interesting.

Frankly, the cold-blooded part of me recognizes that defective humans should be allowed to die. Another reason to support abortion and suicide.

Sad that you want to avoid helping Americans in uniform and veterans.

Oh lordy .. if you knew why I think that in the first place, you'd be ... mildly surprised.

What is depression if not a mental health disease?

Depression is a mental illness. You seem to think there is no such thing as any mental disorders. Am I wrong?

    https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/depression/index.shtml
Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. To be diagnosed with depression, the symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.

Some forms of depression are slightly different, or they may develop under unique circumstances, such as

A constant sense of hopelessness and despair is a sign you may have major depression, also known as clinical depression.

With major depression, it may be difficult to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy friends and activities. Some people have clinical depression only once in their life, while others have it several times in a lifetime.

I will never know, but my granpa had such a life of hard physical work, and he killed himself with alcohol. Every major religions forbid suicide by different ways, so it was an important concern even when everyone was working hard in a physical way, and they're at least 2 milleniums old.
That's not a big mystery for me why I developped depression, I'm autist.
I'm not rich, and yes, I had mostly intellectual work.

Sport is good for fighting depression, it bring oxygen to your brain.

But yes, it's a sickness and it's not a recent sickness, even if it's as sickness who seems to occure much more often.

It's not really the oxygen, but I appreciate your comment. Sport is indeed, VERY good for 'depression', but it's good because it gets you moving, and gets away from your self focus.

You will find very little 'depression' in subsistence communities. If any.

When you exist for the good of the village (as opposed to the pursuit of your own personal satisfactions), and work hard physical work around the clock, there is no space for such indulgences.

The level of abject ignorance of the subject matter in the content of that post is astounding.

Given that erroneous "diagnosis" your beloved BLOTUS should be the most depressed person on the planet.

Since he is clearly an "unsupervised narcissist" who is NOT depressed the fallacious allegation above has no basis whatsoever.

Is a bad mood a disease? Is happiness a disease? Is anger a disease?

Genuine neurological malfunctions (aka, mental illnesses) are the result of brain injury, other physiological accident, or birth defect. They do not 'develop' unless they're part and parcel of degenerative biological process.

    1) Ignorance is manifest in the spastic pathologising of anything that discolours one's day

    2) I have not idea who or what a blotus is.

    3) I have no idea who 'he' is.

Interesting. So, in your opinion, the whole National Institute of Mental Health is just a Left Wing scam? Perhaps a secret conspiracy to convince people there is something wrong with them when there really isn't anything wrong with them? Who do you think is behind this nefarious plot?

    https://www.nimh.nih.gov/index.shtml
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

you credit the field with too much cunning. there is no plot, there is simply a slow disintegration of the science, in favour of the politic.

pretty soon, we'll be back to witch-doctors.

Where did I credit mental health with "cunning"?

You seem very close to this subject since you are highly opinionated on it. Why? Do you have a background in it, some kind of interaction with it? Problems with family members?

You mention some sort of plot. I was responding to that. The field (of mental health) is not plotting anything .. it is merely responding to social pressures to abandon science.

    My 'interaction' is entirely professional.

Scientists and doctors don't abandon science. While some individuals may "sell out", the fields themselves remain intact. If you have evidence otherwise, please present it.

Professional? Are you claiming to be a mental health care professional? If so, in what capacity?

Amazing how the internet empowers people to pretend to be "experts" on subjects that they patently know nothing about whatsoever.
