I play Vendetta Online. Its a 'do whatever' MMO space flight simulator. Despite being nearly 20 years old, its updated graphics models keep it relatively 'modern' but allow it to be used on basically any platform. The physics of flying in space are pretty impressively realistic by todays standards, and awe inspiring considering they havn't changed much since the game was launched. You can play on ur phone vs ppl on their PC vs ppl on any Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, as well as the Oculus Rift. Tho, you will be at an extreme combat disadvantage using mobile vs any mouse/keyboard player since combat is 'twitch based', there are many people who play the game while avoiding combat almost entirely, opting instead to mine, trade, or simply goof around while chatting. This will require paying the pirate players regular 'protection money' as there are areas of space that are basically a no rules free for all where anyone can kill anyone for any reason. There are no 'servers'- everyone playing can interact with everyone else playing. You can play for free, though your skill advancement will be capped and ships will cost an extra resource that you have to gather in game, and that resource is also capped daily. A lite sub (which is like $10/year iirc) removes the skill caps and increases your daily cap of the extra resource, while a full sub ($10/mo??) removes the extra resource entirely. There is no 'pay to win' as there is nothing in game you can buy with real life money except for the subs. The most interesting part of the game (imo) is the realistic player based economy. There are capital ships (comparable to destroyers and cruisers I guess) that require a ridiculous amount of resources to build, and most of those resources can only be gathered by players, so you can either gather them for yourself or buy or trade them from other players using 'real life' bargaining skills (there is no in game trade interface or mail, tho you can hire players to transport goods for you). Its also worth noting that the support staff who created and run the game consists of two people, so this is about as 'mom and pop' (or pop and pop to be technical) as MMOs get. Every now and then one or another of them jump in game with indestructible flying saucers and go around hunting pirates, or so I'm told. In case you couldn't tell, I highly recomend it :D

Facebook has 'Words With Friends', it's like a more popular knock off of Scrabble.
You get to play with your friends and it's free.

If you want other games, might have to buy one of the modern games consoles and get your friends to play them or find new friends on them who play them.

I play a fun game with my daughter called Geoguessr. You can invite people to play. It drops you randomly in the world using google earth street level views. You can wander around at street level, and then you have to guess where in the world you are. The closer you get, the more points you get. Fun way to explore the world if you love geography.
