Curious to know, even honest answers from the pro gun lobby.

I am not talking about freedom or rights, I am talking feeling safer.

Honestly, would you feel safer if you were carrying a weapon. Now I mean in Australia and please do not degrade the figures if you don't live in Australia don't answer.

If you try to stack the figures then we have already won the argument just that we don't know it. But you do.

I always believe that the most effective concealed weapon is " Ze leetle grey cells!"

Please don't forget, this is not about freedom or rights or civil liberties, it's about how you personally feel. Would you feel safer if you were packing a gun?

Auzzies won't like being put under the microscope like this.

They love Auzzieland even with all its faults.

And they are fine with a knife culture and knife crime there rather than guns.

Same with you guys about loving your nation with all its faults.

Some bad elements carry weapons, mostly for "internal" business. In the past few years there has been a slight increase in armed robbery reports but I think that is more due to an increase in population you would see an increase in occurances even if the actual percentage decreased.

Most Australians I believe think similar to me. Most criminals just want to burgle you, if they thought that you may be armed they will arm.

    It's a dog chasing it's tail problem.

If you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have guns.

In addition if you outlaw guns you will simply create a knife culture.

Either way you will have no impact on crime.

    Oh! Bulltwang!!

If you outlaw guns then the crimes have a harder time getting them in the first place

I carry a concealed pistol almost every day anytime I am not carrying an openly visible holstered one when in uniform.

And whether concealed or open-holstered, I still feel vulnerable to the criminal element.

It takes about 1.5 seconds to recognize a threat, and then another 1/2 second to draw from open-holstered or 1.25 seconds from concealed. That gives a criminal over 2 seconds to get a jump on you, gun or no gun.

So I tend to stay away from people and let no one get within 10 feet of me and never behind me. I am always vigilant and observant of everything going on around me.

The gun itself is not magic.

If anything the gun just gives you one more thing to worry about, as in what if the criminal gets the gun away from you ?!

While I am virtually always armed, either concealed or open-holstered, life is not any easier.

I may feel better off with the gun, but there is more responsibility to protect the gun as well.

Those rare times when I am not armed, such as in my pajamas driving to the drug store a block away for aspirin or ibuprofen or foot powder, I feel completely free because I do not need to protect the gun then. At times like that I grab my pepper spray and put it in my pocket.

Pepper spray is the right answer for most people.

To carry a gun you have to be properly trained with a gun.

To be properly trained you must be trained to kill.

It is not easy becoming trained to kill.

Join the Auzzie special forces, then yes. Otherwise probably not.

I figure the improbability of being accosted by a criminal in the short time I am at the nearby drug store warrants my being in PJ's without a gun.

But even so I still bring something with me, which in the case of PJ's is my can of pepper spray.
