It would not be a natural event.

It is the second largest ice body in the world, after the Antarctic ice sheet. ... If the entire 2,850,000 cubic kilometres (684,000 cu mi) of ice were to melt, it would lead to a global sea level rise of 7.2 m (24 ft)

A meltdown of Greenland would affect the thermohaline circulation (slow it down) and that would have numerous adverse effects on the oceans, monsoons and rainfall, and the removal of heat and carbon dioxide

    by the oceans.

What would cause it? 1,900,000 guys with big acetylene tanks and rosebud torches melting it all?

I am hoping you will give me some advice on preparations you have made so I can do the same. You are getting prepared for this, right?

Wait... so this dire stuff you are quoting has occurred repeatedly in the past? And that was before the industrial revolution, correct? Hmmm.... I gotta think about that...

What is the average temperature in Greenland before and after the global average temperature increases by 2 degrees Centigrade ?? What temperature does ice melt at ?? What is the heat transfer coefficient from air to the ice surface ?? What is the heat of fusion of ice ??

Nothing. It would take centuries to melt. Plenty of time for humans to adapt unless economic growth is stifled by the current green energy policy nonsense.

When data and experience prove they were correct....why would they change their minds. That YOU refuse to believe it is irrelevant.

Why don’t you google it yourself?

I no longer play this game. Spend hours researching, finding articles citing them and reading through to find the parts that the scientific illiterate can understand only to have that person turn around and go “I don fink dats rite!”

    Not doing it

And neither I notice is anyone else

I know since you obviously know all about it why don’t you talk with these people who are actually measuring ice loss

    All I did was “political”?

All I am doing recently is saving myself hours and hours of work by linking to a systematic review/meta analysis

I am making no preparations because the most serious problems will occur 50 years are more in the future. Once the GMT rises more than 2.0 degrees C. above pre-industrial levels

and stays at the level or higher for a number of decades, then it may be difficult to prevent a massive rise in sea level and extreme weather events. Humans have to act now in order to

prevent a coming catastrophe. We may have more than 12 years but time is running out. The European Union countries have reduced carbon emissions by 23% since 1990 but the

U.S. has not reduced its carbon emissions any since 1990; they are approximately the same. The countries most vulnerable to sea level rise and extreme weather are going to want

some compensation from those heavy emitters of CO2 that have not made drastic changes to reduce carbon emissions. This is already happening now. There could easily be

hundreds of millions of climate refugees before the end of this century.

As to your question about this dire stuff happening in the past, yes the climate has experienced dramatic changes in the past brought on by changes in "climate forcings'.

The climate forcings have been changed in recent history by humans since we have been burning great quantities of coal, oil, and natural gas. The climate forcings are

a way of converting physical changes that affect the earth's climate into equivalent levels of radiation flux. Warming and cooling cycles in the past

were usually initiated by very small changes in incident solar radiation associated with Milankovitch cycles, maybe a few hundreds of a watt per square meter. That increase

or decrease in energy absorbed by the earth over thousands of years was later amplified by positive climate feedbacks, such as atmospheric carbon dioxide and methane changes

and ice sheet changes (albedo = surface reflectivity).

I need to correct my last post. change "hundreds" to "hundreths" in second to last sentence.

LOL, experience has proven the alarmist predictions were all incorrect and the alarmism is based on a computer model.

I see...so shrinking Ice Caps, Coral die offs, coastline ocean encroachment, increasing tidal flooding, increased rainfall, increased drought, worldwide annual temperature increases....etc...are all figments of our collective imaginations? The fact my planting zone is about to change is just coincidence?

Some people think that rising seas and melting ice is unusual during an inter-glacial. According to the GISP2 ice core temperatures have been cooling since the Holocene Optimum 8K years ago and periods of warming are not unusual. The real threat isn't the little bit of warming we have seen during the modern warm period but will be the end of the Holocene when the earth plunges back into a glacial period.

One reason CO2 has been so low that it is close to the level that plants cannot survive is because we are in a 2.5 million year long ice age interspersed with short mild periods called inter-glacials. During every past warm period mankind has flourished and expanded. Warming is what we want, not cooling but cooling is inevitable. Some scientists say we just missed the plunge and others give us 400 years. None of the scientists know exactly what triggers it but we are close to the end of the Holocene no matter how you look at it.

No game. Just an attempt to point out that if the air temperature increases from 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 15 degrees Fahrenheit that ice does not melt.

The Antarctica ice cap is increasing, Coral die offs are not due to sea water temperature increasing, significant coastal effects are due to land sinking, there is no increasing drought occurrence, and global warming is beneficial.

BTW what happens to the global sea level if the arctic sea ice caps completely melts tomorrow ??

Did you read post #10? Antarctica is losing mass and the mass loss has been accelerating. This has been verified by 3 different methodologies.

    The total mass loss increased from 40 ± 9 Gt/y in 1979–1990 to 50 ± 14 Gt/y in 1989–2000, 166 ± 18 Gt/y in 1999–2009, and 252 ± 26 Gt/y in 2009–2017. In 2009–2017, the mass loss was dominated by the Amundsen/Bellingshausen Sea sectors, in West Antarctica (159 ± 8 Gt/y), Wilkes Land, in East Antarctica (51 ± 13 Gt/y), and West and Northeast Peninsula (42 ± 5 Gt/y).

The only way the main mass of Antarctica ice which is East Antarctica can lose ice is by lack of snow. It is too cold to melt. It disappears due to evaporation.
