    Well well
Tax reform is already making a HUGE difference in the lives of 200,000 union workers. That's $200,000,000 in total bonus dollars for lineman, technicians and other union workers.

Would ya just look at that!

Nice, but I hope they included a note to their more liberal employees to remind them that the Government will be happy to take that extra money, if anybody should feel bad about their stealing from the Government and driving up the debt. Liberals care about that now that a Republican is in office. There's a website set up where they can donate.

I don't think liberals are going to bite on this story too much. An example of 'trickle down' trickling down outweighs their support for unions.

I think a lot of people are hitting the "refresh" button on their email inbox, eagerly awaiting their talking points for how to explain this story away.

Trickling down to the unions is dripping in irony.

    Per AT&T's Q3 10Q:

Interesting. I wonder if this payout is in any relation to 20,000 who may now not be contracted with AT&T any longer?

perhaps someone can explain where all this money that Trump supporters say is being given to everyone is coming from?

Becuase they are union contracts. Some of the AT&T construction workers make like $40/hour. Wire techs make $23.

AT&T can give bonuses but can't give raised because of union contracts? That's a new one. I never heard of unions fighting to keep their workers from getting raises.

I didn't say that. You read it that way because you wanted to.

Raises are negotiated at the end of the contract. Neither side can just decide to start negotiating on a whim.

It's actually true. My techs are unionized and I can't give them anything beyond what the contract calls for even if it benefits them. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

AT&T isn't the only corp. deciding to spread their newly granted wealth

JUST IN: Fifth Third Bancorp announces plan "to raise its minimum hourly wage for all employees to $15, and distribute a one-time bonus of $1,000 for more than 13,500 employees" following passage of tax bill.

Wait a minute. First off, it's great AT&T is giving 200,000 employees a $1,000 bonus (this matches the retroactive back pay for some of their union members). AT&T has about 246,000 employees, what are the non union employees getting? Secondly AT&T is increasing their capex by $1 billion, which is what about 4.5% of total their total annual capex?

Given AT&T's huge numbers in revenue ($163.8 billion), operating income (24.347 billion) and income taxes paid - $6.479 billion in 2016 (about 33% of taxable income $19.8 billion), they can expect to save approximately $2.4 billion with a 21% tax rate. Even after the capex expansion, which they likely need otherwise why do it, and the employee bonuses they are still way ahead of the game. Last but not least - Trump has an ego that needs to be fed, AT&T would like to take over Time Warner for about $85 billion. Trump is against this and perhaps AT&T believes a little ego boosting for the buffoon might help them......

Lastly, I wonder what the shareholders think about this.....

Ah, nothing like a short term bonus to make people feel good about an entirely unpopular tax bill.

The Rs better hope the long term implications don't play out as estimated.

Yeah, when it is the final year of the contract a union negotiation team will meet with corp reps to hash out any changes to the contract, hoping to avoid a strike.
