Haven't some anti-immigration activists become "doomsday fanatics?" Don't they sometimes tell scary stories?

    Innocent until proven guilty, no?

I am not aware of any "anti-immigration activists". There are activists who oppose illegal aliens crossing our borders. Have not heard any of them predict doomsday.

A criminal trial jury is instructed to presume that a defendant is not guilty absent proof beyond a reasonable doubt of guilt. The rest of us can presume anything we like. We can even presume that OJ did it even though he was found "not guilty".

Only if it's not too cruel and too unusual.

Hope I can help with this.

As a past member of the NSW Rural Fire Service, I can tell you with 100% certainty that 183 people have not been arrested for deliberately lighting fires in Australia this fire season. There are probably a few cases of actual arson, usually by kids or a mentally not right adults, but the majority, probably 180 of those are cases of breaching a total fire ban regulation and most of those would be handled with an on the spot fine by police or rangers, and a few would be arrested and have to face a local magistrate.

Some of those people would be just total idiots, one guy was arrested for having a BBQ in the open with wood he pulled off a fence. Then you get other cases where you'd think common sense would prevailed, like using an angle grinder near a dry grass area. And then you get situations like where a guy was given a $2000 fine because a chain connecting his car and trailer was touching the ground making sparks.

I'm not making an argument for or against climate change here, but just debunking that 183 people have been arrested for deliberately lighting fires is total BS.

I mean the ones who are against Islamic immigration because they fear that Islam will take over the country.

Sure we can, but it's foolish to do so, especially with a lack of evidence. Did you see the evidence against the Brazilian activists?

I think the greater fear of Islamic immigration the threat of terrorist infiltration. Even vetted Saudi military officers can be terrorists.

The evidence, not proof, is that the activists used the fire to promote their cause. Man made global warming doomsday fanatics seem to have a fixation on fires and arson.

You are not a scientist yet you believe you know more than them.... The first step to learning is recognizing that you do not know better than them.

So, by "the internet" do you mean legitimate peer reviewed scientific studies? Or do you mean nutty conspiracy theory click-holes?
So, with all sincerity, (although to be fair, I have my theories) if you are really worried about dirty money, why reach for fantastical and imaginary money trails? Without having to do any pretending or fantasizing, there are literally trillions of dollars in dirty money swimming around causing climate change. Is it like flat-earth? In that it's more fun to jump on the least obvious solution?

I've been associated with the NSW Fire Service for 15 years and every fire season there are media reports of fires being deliberately lite but on the very rare cases where it's deliberate, it's nearly always a juvenile firebug.

Most fires that are not caused my lightning are from a discarded cigarette butts form a car or someone just being an effing idiot. If there have been no lightning strikes in the area and no ember attack from another fire area, the fire service will report the ignition source as suspicious, and the media extrapolates that as arson.

Actual adult arsonists are exceedingly rare.

(BTW I think people who throw cigarettes from a car window fire ban or not should have the crap kicked out of them)

My position on the cause of the Australian bushfires.

I agree with the scientific consensus of AGW but am not convinces in the unproven modelling which suggests were on the verge of an apocalypse. The cause of our bushfires are the result of a prolonged drought which may be partly attributive to process of AGW but also very possible to be just a normal weather cycle.

When exactly did I say that I know better than the scientists who study the subject?

Why is it relevant that it's a "juvenile firebug?" Arson is arson.

Hmm. Okay. Well whether it is arson or not, the fact is that there have been 183 reported arrests for starting fires.

I'm not sure why this matters.

    I like that idea.

Sure, but would it be fair for such activists be blamed by the left for a terrorist attack based on no evidence?

How do you know that though?

Well are there any other examples of this "fixation" other than the Brazilian case?

What about fuel load? Specifically bush which can't be back burned due to green policies. Check out this post: http://www.politicalforum.com/index...climate-change.566538/page-60#post-1071356444

You dont need to specifically say those words but every post you make in this thread screams such pretense.

It matters as to what is contributing to the majority of those fires and debunks the entire thread’s premise.

Did you even READ the post which you quoted? I said, "that climate change MIGHT be the reason that the fires have been so much worse than before." Are you saying that it MIGHT or are you saying that it DEFINITELY IS?

It's clear that the thread discussion has moved away from specifically the thread's premise.

Not unusual here, and those that sway away from the topic invariably dont see it as rude or at least dont start their own thread.

In my experience starting threads they usually end up a Dem/Rep shouting match. Many poster dont think this is an international forum and in regards to US politics...to coin a phrase..."frankly my dear, I dont give a damn"...
