It might be during a major general war and you are wanting to bottle up Chinese shipping.

Yes. It will cost us at least $AU2 billion, possibly more. However, given how messy the contract already was it may be that we would have wasted even more had the contract gone ahead. With deals this big over such a long time it isn't clear.

In which case a smaller, quieter ship would have less chance of being spotted.

We are gonna build them here. We are not buying them off a US shelf.

It is also well known around the traps that the French have also been in multiple breaches of the Contract. We have sucked that up until now.

It was a joke based on a dumb ass government who's known to just leave military equipment lying around for people to take...

More likely that only some components will be built in Australia. Wait and see.

You would prefer to stand on your own or with our protection? The way you come here an criticize my country I would expect you to turn us down trying to help you come up to the modern world so that maybe you could take on more of that burden so we don't have to.

We are just grateful that you are back with us. Four years of watching Trump screw up every international treaty in the world had me at least thinking ANZUS was dead and buried..

No as to “more of that burden”

Tell me how many times have YOU come to OUR aid versus how many times WE helped YOU she asked poisonously

    Hmmm, lets see.

    *We got to WW1 & WW2 first.
*We were the second nation committed to Korea - even before the UN mandate.
*We deployed forces to fight Communism in Sth East Asia years before the first US troops in Vietnam.
*We joined the US effort in Vietnam in 1962, ultimately spending a fortune and a decade in Vietnam.
*We sent naval units to the first Gulf war.
*We were one of the first nations to commit to Afghanisan and had troops there virtually to the end.
*We sent troops, naval & air units to Iraq, the Persian Gulf & Syria.

We were not bound to enter any of those post WW2 conflicts. We chose to in order to support our major ally.

Number of times the US has come to our aid when it wasn't compelled to? 0

Yet once again we have right wing Americans showing nothing but contempt for Australia and claiming we are somehow getting a free ride. Shows how little they actually respect US allies. Ignorant and disgraceful all rolled into one.

Which is why they cheered someone like trump who spent most of the time forgetting we existed but then I don’t think Trump has liked us since the 1980s when they turned him down for a casino licence in Sydney because they thought he was too corrupt!!!

Very likely. The French Subs were nuclear that had to be converted to non-nuclear. I guess when the French stuffed up, our Mob saw the error of their ways and went to the USA for the technology.

They just repeat tired, rote learned mantras and stuff Trump and their mindless media echo chamber tell them and convince themselves it qualifies as an opinion. I doubt more then one in ten has ever dug any deeper.

You will never find a post of mine criticising the USA itself. Sure, I am like a rat up a rope with Humpty, Rudy, Powell, corrupt ********s and the likes, also on aspects of your Judicial system and some parts of the Constitution, but that is not the USA, and I'd be obliged if you ceased misrepresenting my position, Sir.

And listen up Argentia, don't cry to me about who 'seeks protection.' As I have said multiple times, when 'you' are deep in the doo doo, the first mob 'you' come a knocking to is us, and we always put our hand up, despite having no dog in the fight.

That's the impression I got reading those articles. Somebody dropped the ball and Aus. got tired of the mind games. It has always boggled my mind how the ones that drop the ball feel justified in being angry when the other party gets tired of the broken promises and seeks solutions elsewhere. There's a fix for that - stand behind your agreements!

They gave logistical support (no combat troops) and it was a UN mandate. If they want to count that one we get to add peacekeeping in Somalia & possibly a few more besides.
