    Absurd?
Absurd is that Monsanto is making contracts with farmers to use their bullcrap that made out of every farmer a slave of Monsanto.
Absurd is that even farmers who did not use or buy their crap, but get their products with thanks to mother nature on their land, have to pay for it!

Monsanto is evil ... and that they got at US courts right is the point that is absurd. Payback comes sometimes late as here with the damage issues now!

That’s funny. Monsanto is evil ??? Farmers are slaves of Monsanto ??? Ridiculous.

Depends on what you term a species.

    Man made designation.

Still a bacteria and corn plant do not exchange genes in nature.
    Si?

I woudl say high insulin is the biggest problem... too many carbs in the American diet, and too frequent of eating of those carbs, the insulin is high all the time

Actually it was approved in 1996, probably when Bill Clinton won his second term. I recall the Christian Coalition was adamantly against the GMO's and they were powerful at the time in the Republican Party, so I assume it was a Democratic Congress - but I'm not sure.

There's a difference though in developing produce in a way that is natural and the implantation of something into a GMO plant.

    Yes.

But, the :worship: Science  crowd
can't be bothered with such distinctions.

    Cross Breeding vs Gene Transplantation
Gene Transplantation over such very diverse life forms,
cross breeding could not have happened.

Obligations to contain a Frankenfood program to
avoid contamination of our food supply have hardly worked.
The first corn that was supposed to be "contained", wasn't.
Apparently pollen escaped and contaminated our food supply.
Modern Corn, Now Fortified With Insecticide. and so it goes.

GMO Salmon used on salmon farms have likewise
    escaped to the wild.

But, "scientists say", so "What Me Worry?".

The only difference is the time it takes to develop the desired characteristic in the plant. Genetic engineering is much faster than Luther Burbank’s methods.

    ALL!
    Study up.
    Above this thread

    #135

Insect resistance Corn Resistance to insect pests, specifically the European corn borer, through expression of the insecticidal protein Cry1Ab from Bacillus thuringiensis
Insecticidal protein benign "us" and now a containment in all corn.

Nothing! They don't care! Gone are the days when foreign products and cosmetics were not trusted. Today people distrust American goods.

    So they should distrust them.

With new technology such as crisper, it is way more accurate than it was when Monsanto was creating glyphosate resistant technology.
Back then, you used viral plasmids to inject DNA into the genome and who knows where it took up or was inserted and what gene systems it interfered with.

I worked with some of the first pioneers in Canada doing this kind of work and they literally were using gene guns that shot tungsten pellets coated with DNA into tissue and if one in 100,000 of your DNA constructs actually took up somewhere in the genome and managed to be expressed - woopie scientific breakthrough and success!!!:cheerleader:

There is actually not a corn, canola or soy plant anywhere in North America that you can certify GMO free. That is how much control they have over this technology and we just do not fully know the long-term environmental impact of messing with natural genomes this way.

A great big uncontrolled experiment run by multinational corporations for their own profit.

See, @AFM confuses GMO with Cross Breeding.
Cross Breeding is between the same species.
Unless AFM commands a new definition for it.

Remember: And @AFM didn't seem to know it
    copy/paste from above
Insect resistance Corn Resistance to insect pests, specifically the European corn borer, through expression of the insecticidal protein Cry1Ab from Bacillus thuringiensis
Insecticidal protein benign "us" and now a contaminant in all corn.
If you want to enjoy corn, you must have your insecticidal protein too.
There is no getting around it.

How many years, or decades upon decades do you suppose it will
take for any effects of consumption of the above insecticidal protein
to demonstrate itself in your health?

Tobacco or radiation induced "solid organ" malignancies take decades to appear.

@AFM asked, "Does The FDA Know"
No one knows. Just "well paid" to pass on the improvement.

REMEMBER: the first approval for experimenting with this corn required
containment. It wasn't. Pollen escaped. Our food supply contaminated.
No Monsanto CEO suffered over it. Just the stock holders.
    Go figure.
    Oh I know @AFM figuring.
    :worship: Science
    And the FDA too.
    no thinking required.

Regret <sigh> @AFM does not share any of AFM's education in this field.
    Even personal education.
Remember: GMO is not synonymous to Cross Breeding

Yes. Corn is completely a product of genetic modification. Anyone died of eating corn ???

Genetic modification can be accomplished by genetic engineering or human intervention via cross breeding. The former is much more efficient. And as the PhD in the link (Professor Kevin Folta of the University of Florida) indicates genetic engineering is nothing more than precision cross breeding.

He is not a professor at Florida ?? He does not teach real classes ??

Name some real professors who teach real biology classes.

    I enjoy eating corn.
