I know a lot about roads and taxes. The Feds chunk in so little for roads, can you tell me the amount in the budget. But compare that to local property taxes, donations from builders, city and county taxes along with state taxes and those I am not complaining about. The Feds need perform duties as explained in the constitution.

I don't know the approximate figure that the US government spends on roads.

Should the citizenry be satisfied with a government that only does the "bare minimum"? I would also note that capitalists ignore one very simple fact: they would not be rich without the contributions of their workers.

    Let me help you.

Roads crossing state lines get funding from the Feds. Bridges crossing state lines as well.

While government does pay for roads and bridges, it is the state you should appreciate and not the Feds.

Capitalists do not do what you allege. Oprah Winfrey was making 450 million per year as pay from her capitalist bosses. They seem quite generous the way I see them.

    Semantics. They're still government projects.

Too generous. That equates to over $51,000 per hour, even when she's asleep.

Wait, the conversation got started with the Feds doing all this magic. I commented it is the states doing the most of it.
I never get too nosy over others income since it is due to the contract between them and their management group.

So I do not resent what Winfrey earns. I extend this to all high earners. It is none of my business as to government intrusion.

You don't see a problem with people receiving more money than they've earned? It's mathematically impossible to contribute that much to a society, government or corporation, even if someone worked 24 hours a day.

I actually do not see the problem. It reminds me in a way of a job I took shortly after high school graduation that lasted but a day.
Myself and some buddies decided to harvest grapes to see if we could make even gas money. We had never "cut" grapes. We were issued a box and a curved knife and off we went to cut grapes.

Most of the workers were extremely fast. We could not come close to cutting what they cut. So they made much more money than we did. Was it fair? To me it was fair.

I later hired men to work for me as a machine shop owner. I had some men that were very good workers and paid them top scale. Should I have paid the lowest class worker also top scale to keep him from resenting the other guys?

I have no issues with compensation based on performance. But CEOs should not get millions, especially since they're just one worker. And most of the "work" they do is simply delegation or making simple decisions based on common sense.

Is it? I'm pretty sure the concepts put forth by bill gates and Steve jobs are two that could easily rank up there with that earning.

So? They couldn't possibly do all the coding, marketing and negotiating required to get his product to market, could they? No one person could.

Nice. Have a cup of coffee with the three people whose lives you're about to destroy, then off you go.

I'm sure Mom, Dad, and their brother were equally 'very happy'.

    A-h0les.

No but the concept of a usable personal computer has been invaluable to humanity, something they decided to in their home garage. They made the proper business choices following that startup. They definitely earned every penny they have ever received.

They were born in the right places at the right time, and they were lucky enough to receive an education that allowed them to invent such a useful technology. They certainly weren't responsible for the majority of their success, let alone all of it.

crank: how do you know how they felt? And isn't is presumptuous of you to assume that their parents and brother weren't "happy"?
