The creation story of Colorado illustrates a legitimate need for government. Colorado's climate is dry, so water has always been an issue. There came a time when the rivers and creeks that towns depended on were running dry because upstream farmers and towns had diverted all of the water.

Short of open warfare between towns, the idea of the State of Colorado arose as a way to mitigate water rights. The state was the instrument early settlers used to civilize the territory.

The Kremlin was heavily involved with rum running during prohibition.

CPUSA is keeping their coffers full with the legalization of marijuana.

But the biggest impact on states like Colorado who have legalized marijuana has been the big increase of the cucaracha population.

This is a sink in a typical stoners home.

Look Gary - you do not even know how to define "expanded Gov't" within the context of this conversation - nor have you made any attempt to define what you mean by this term - or justify your claim in general.

I have asked you for such definitions previously - without which it is impossible to have a coherent conversation. Since you have mostly avoided my requests to define what you mean ... I will define the term for you - in the context of the conversation.

What is a measure for "expanded Gov't- referring to the size of Gov't" ? How do we measure "The size" of Gov't ?

One accepted definition for the size of Gov't - is the size of Gov't spending. In fact by definition Gov't spending is a function of the size of Gov't.. and big Gov't is a function of the size of big spending.

How do we measure that the size of Gov't spending - and whether it is increasing or decreasing. This is relatively simple.

    1) take the difference of this years revenue and last year revenue.

2 if the number is negative -subtract from the deficit for the year in question. . If it is positive do not subtract.

Since revenue almost always increases year over year - in most cases you can just look at the deficit.

What this then measures is the amount that Gov't spending increased - over and above increased revenue.

The above is more accurate but - it would not matter which way you did the calculation. In both cases Red has increased the size of Gov't more than Blue from Carter to Trump.

Gov't authority - is a necessary evil for civil society to exist. Even in tribal societies that functioned on the basis of generalized reciprocity - there was a hierarchy that maintained this order.

We often hear arguments from anarchy "no Gov't" - but these are not realistic and the person doing the arguing often does not realize they are arguing from anarchy.

We hear similar black vs white arguments with respect to capitalism - "If we would just have complete non Gov't intervention life would be wonderful".
In this case the people at least know what they are arguing - even if they have never heard the term Laissez faire - but often have no understanding of the nasty and historically demonstrable consequences of pure unadulterated self interest and greed.

The question is not all or nothing - the question is what amount of power - and how to limit this power -and how is this power allocated.

yes, there was lot of crime involved under alcohol prohibition too, prohibition harms society more than the drugs ever could

"Drug Money Funds Terrorism And Terrorists"

time to end the war on drugs, been going on long enough and it's easier now to get drugs then when it started, prohibition doesn't work, it just creates crime lords and makes recreational activities criminal, just like when alcohol was made illegal

It also funds the Democratic party and occasionally some low information foreigner will try to influence a Republican candidate.

Didn't two Ukrainian just got arrested for illegally funneling money to a candidate running for Governor in Nevada ?

I define expanded government by total number of departments created Since the Constitution was written how do you define it spending to keep someone else monster afloat a little while longer?

What an absurd and relatively meaningless definition... do you understand a thing in my post ?

    Go read again.

Good point - any pain that can be treated with cannabis - that should be the first choice - Oxy - Fenynal being the last.

Well yeah.. a lot of older people have some level of chronic pain, Cannabis would be a better choice than fenynal or Oxy.

Over the course of my life I have been in quite a few stoner's homes. Can't say I ever saw bugs, as you claim. Anti-marihuana zealots have a long record of trying to paint marihuana in ways that don't reflect reality.

Size of government is a function of the number of citizens. Small towns have small governments and large towns have larger governments. There is not a linear connection but rather an exponential one. More people, more government. It is just the way it is. Businesses are the same. Little company, little administration; large company, large administration. It is like a law of nature.

If you want a smaller Federal government, you would have to reduce the size of the country. Plain and simple.

Your statement sir borders on the absurd.

That is Silly. Government has grown far faster than the general population. According to your analysis at some point we will have more government workers than people.

I did mention that there was an expoential connection, as opposed to a linear one. That is why governments swell as the population grows.

We could slow that population growth by liberalizing birth control, including abortion. Or we could break the country into two or more parts.

It is the exponential statement to which I referred when you said government must always grow. It is an absurd statement.

It is reality, regardless of the government type, or the administration of an organization.

    Complexity breeds more complexity.

Those are Mexican cucarachas that crossed over our open borders.
The Mexican cucarachas are so lazy they hitch a ride in bundles of marijuana that are smuggled across the border by Mexican drug smugglers.

Colorado has way to many sanctuary cities.
