I'm going with master. I discovered Metallica in 1986 and they have been my favorite since. Seen them a few years back in Coachella. The big four tour.
Probably "One". It's the best "true" Metallica song after they got done ripping off Dave Mustaine's riffs and style. If we're counting their stolen stuff, I'd put "Creeping Death" up there along with "Fight Fire With Fire", the latter being their heaviest and most aggressive song ever.
I can't listen to the Master of Puppets album anymore. For some reason, Ride the Lightning, Kill em' All, and even And Justice For All (to a lesser extent) are still enjoyable after all these years of listening to them, but Master of Puppets just bores the ever loving hell out of me these days. It doesn't have the same replay value, for me. RTL is their best in my book.
Just stumbled across this thread, was surprised the poll only got 2 replies ... neither of my favs were choices ... fade to black, and am i evil ... yes I am ...
I find the ladies are drawn to the early stuff ... I think it had as much to with the big hair as it did the music though ... Mtv ... spandex ...
Not for me. I just like the music better. I don't care about the hair or spandex even if some of them had cute butts!
I have to post this one again here. It is so kickass!
The new stuff from Metallica? Meh, it's okay. It seems as if they are trying to duplicate some of their older stuff, but it's just not the same. *shrugs* I don't know why, but it's just not.
There are three songs on the new album that I like, and the rest is ok, but it doesn't call me back for another listen. One of the things I don't like about all of their newer albums is their guitar tone. It's different. I think they changed their amplification or the way they master their albums. The black album was the last album they made with the guitar tone that I like. I loved their guitar tone on the And Justice for All... album, even if Metallica does not. I'm totally fine with a wall of guitar tone and inaudible bass. I think they're also just getting old. All good things must come to an end.
Yeah, maybe you're right. I don't really know what it is with the new album, just not as good as their old stuff, IMO. I like And Justice For All too. Some great songs!
I like For Whom the Bell Tolls out of that list. A list that's missing; One, Sad But True, Master of Puppets, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman and Fuel and I Disappear for later ones; Love Robert Trujillo on bass and this current line up of Metallica is my favourite. Songs............. I feel that; in 300 years time, people'll still be listening to Metallica songs much like we listen to Beethoven's works today.
I bought this CD for this 1 track on this album from Amazon or some online shop (I can't remember exactly)..
