Biden has now selected a second top-man advisor who hates free speech.

Whatever limited capacity we have to speak our minds today, we'd best say what we wish. Tomorrow we all may be muzzled.

"...Biden tapped Richard Stengel to take the “team lead” position on the US Agency for Global Media, including Voice of America, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. As I previously addressed in a column, Stengel has been one of the most controversial figures calling for censorship and speech controls. For a president-elect who just called for everyone to “hear each other,” he picked a top aide who wants to silence many. Since it would be difficult to select a more anti-free speech figure to address government media policy, one has to assume that Biden will continue the onslaught against this core freedom as president. This is not the first Biden aide to indicate a crackdown on free speech in the new Administration and Biden himself has called for greater censorship on the Internet."

    This is very creepy.

From the article I just linked (#154)...

"Last year, Stengel wrote a chilling Washington Post op-ed that denounced free speech as a threat to social and political harmony. Like a number of liberal and Democratic figures, Stengel struggled to convince readers that what they need is less freedom: “All speech is not equal. And where truth cannot drive out lies, we must add new guardrails. I’m all for protecting ‘thought that we hate,’ but not speech that incites hate.”

It appears we are about to become real life characters in Orwell's 1984. Joe Biden is setting up The Ministry of Truth.

Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Free Speech on the Internet today with Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and Jack Dorsey (Twitter).

Interesting how very different the concerns of Republicans and Democrats are. Democrats are definitely wanting more restrictions, but apparently only of political opposition. Republicans are wanting less censorship.

There will still be some freedoms. Like the freedom to donate all your money to the DNC and the freedom to kill babies for spare parts right after they are born

Are you aware (silly question) that you are being critical of Biden for changing his mind, and not changing his mind? His thinking has evolved in a few areas, and that bit of silly accuses him of not changing his mind. Perhaps you should make up your mind?

But the more interesting bit is that Trump never admits mistakes, and has a longstanding habit of changing documents to reflect what he has said recently. He's more Dear Leader than Big Brother, but the authoritarian impulse is undeniable (although you will waste time trying).

Or - the freedom to stone adulterers ! .. oh .. shart - thats Red not Blue .. forgive my use of hyperbolic gibberish that does nothing but detract from the OP ... which is important.

And Red are by far the bigger Socialists as a function of "Wealth Redistribution" - aka - taking your money. So that one doesn't fly - -but again does nothing but detract from the important topic.

So the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on social media censorship seemed to reflect that Democrats wish for Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and Jack Dorsey (Twitter) to be more restrictive in banning/censoring/deleting "hate speech", which they framed by utilizing only examples of a very few right-wing radical Tweets or FB posts.

Republicans, did not call out the organizing of events by BLM or Antifa which have turned in to continuous riots. Republicans are respecting the free speech and rights of BLM and Antifa to organize on social media and simply would like to be treated equally.

In other words, Democrats think that "not enough censorship" is the issue. Republicans think "too much censorship" is the issue, and that the censorship is politically biased.

We can't survive as a democracy on lies.

It used to be that the economics of the media prevented false information from being distributed in any significant volume.

Today, that mechanism no longer exists.

So, we are now FLOODED by lies. And, that is a DEADLY assault on our nation.

But you can't have communism without fascism. Unless you think 350 million Americans are going to volunteer to live in dormitories and work 12 hour days in exchange for gruel?

LOL If I get to vote, it will only be 349,999,999.

Of course, communists only provide a fake vote with "irregular" voting systems, so maybe it will be an even 350 mil.

Biden's Black voters will still have the
right to riot, loot, and arson too.
Just as they did during the Obama presidency.

You have nothing? I told you what would convince.

Do you consider religious statements and memes as conservative posts?
I have friends and relatives that post daily religious memes and statements. They never get taken down

I have seen all kinds of people that posted positive tRUMP posts and they never get taken down.

Um, Networks control free speech. They don't allow anyone to come on their networks and state every unsubstantiated claim one wants to make.
Twitter and FB sell advertising to pay bills. Anyone who sells ads, caters to those buying ads.

It's called the free market. Private companies are free to do business that makes them the most profit, are they not?

Are you kidding? Social media has never immediate feedback.
Those sites know pretty quick what customers are wanting.

Social media is not a platform to post anything and everything.
That's why they have TOS rules, just like this site does.

    Violate the rules, get censored.

No one volunteers, it's imposed on people through deception. As an example, in Imperial Russia, the Bolsheviks and others used the Tsar's free press to slander and denigrate his family since they were held in high esteem by the people - and it worked. Many did turn against him.

Tsar Nicholas II had made up plans to distribute his lands among the peasants, so the Bolsheviks passed around rumors that it was not his land, but the lands of the nobility that would be distributed. That way they would turn against him. As for the peasants, the Bolsheviks promised to give them land - which as we know was a lie.

Frankly, I see a similarity to their lies and the massive lies told us by the MSM.

I guess unsubstantiated claims doesn't apply to the hosts.
