I think this is an excellent move. China is well-known for their abuses on human rights, and economic pressure will provide some pressure for them to clean up their act. The government rounds up Uighurs Muslims and subjects them to torture, forced sterilization and indoctrination all in the name of "political re-education."

The situation is pretty terrible from what little I know about it. Individual companies will back down given the revenues they will lose, but now they have a law to hide behind and stay strong.

Kudos to Biden on this. Something I can actually give him credit for.

While this sounds perfectly good, and probably overdue, I have 2 questions.

    1. How is this enforced? What is going to stop the Chinese from shipping products at night to districts that aren't under this sanction for sale to us?? I hope somebody has truly thought this out... Seems to me it would be a like a country banning imports from Iowa, but not Minnesota...

    SNIP
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency estimated then that about $9 billion of cotton products and $10 million of tomato products were imported from China in the past year.
    ENDSNIP

    2. How can it been that the United States of America needs to IMPORT tomato products, considering we have so much incredible farmland in this country?? Truly mind blowing...

It was our capitalist greed which drove our corporations to voluntarily offshore our manufacturing to Asia, and any other place they could find cheap labor.

I also have enforcement questions. We can’t even stop drugs and illegals from coming here, plus I’m sure Biden will be doling out tons of waivers.

You seem confused on a simple distinction.

    Cheap labor = lawful
    Slave labor = unlawful

There is nothing immoral about looking for the best value for your money.
It is wholly immoral to benefit from slave labor.

Let me know if you remain unclear on the point.

Hell no, not 'our'! Corrupted politicians used taxpayer "subsidies" and 'helped' corps do this. Free trade lowered prices but it also eroded the long term viability of North America's shrinking middle class and good paying jobs..

Bingo! You just showed the true difference how Trump supporters and Democrats are judging our presidents:

If Trump imposed a ban on goods from China's Xinjiang over abuse of Uyghurs:
Trump supporters: Great president, he fights for the freedom, Makes America Great Again!
    Democrats: we support it.

After Biden imposed a ban on goods from China's Xinjiang over abuse of Uyghurs:
Trump supporters: We can’t even stop drugs and illegals from coming here, plus I’m sure Biden will be doling out tons of waivers.
Democrats: this is an excellent move.

    Spare us the Marxist drivel.

It was the unwillingness of cheap-assed Americans to pay more to support American products and jobs that got us into this situation and it will be the continued unwillingness of cheap-assed Americans to pay more to support American products and jobs that will keep us from getting back out of it.

If this has any kind of positive effects then great. If Biden is able to do something that can help the Uyghurs then I will support him fully in this endeavor. I don't really see this having much impact though unfortunately. Myabe I'm just being cynical but I don't have much hope where China is involved.

Ah yes, the "ban orange juice " strategy. Kudos for an excellent targeted strategy.

It's about time that Democrats allowed us to get slave labor out of our supply chains.

The bill of course will not do anything and is unenforceable.

It's entirely unenforceable, and it will not be enforced.

Goods produced in Xinjiang will just be moved to another province and rebranded there, or sold to other companies who will then sell it in the US. There will be no way to know. The Chinese government certainly isn't going to cooperate with enforcement.

And to top it all off, only a tiny percentage of China's exports to the US are actually made in Xinjiang, and China has other prison slave labor factories in other places that export to the US. This isn't going to do anything to "punish" China.

Of course the Biden Administration entirely knows this, but it's just a feel-good band-aide measure that "sounds nice", to put on a public appearance like at least the Biden Administration is "doing something".

Because we use those resources to do stupid crap like make ethanol from corn, limiting sugar production, and controlling where milk can be sold.

Well, while none of those concepts should affect tomato production, we can agree on the nonsense of the final 2 anyway....

those were meant as examples but I'm curious why you think corn base ethanol is a good idea instead of sugar. Anyway, products like tomatoes are not really affected by land but rather by limited availability of pickers. China can just force people to do it.
